Why no British or Irish pubs outside of Sukhumvit?

Beerlao Dark is my fav drop. Some 7/11s have it. Common in Udon and Nong Khai.

I like a beerlao lager. It was a revelation taste wise when I first went to Luang Prabang. Far superior to any Thai bog standard beer. I must try the dark and IPA as I generally prefer them to lagers. I find the beerlao lager quite easy to find in CM. Luckily, local expat shop on Samui when I'm there stocks the lager at a reasonable price.

Surprised to know that it's part of Carlsberg group (even more surprising, Carlsberg have majority share holding - not sure they would get away with that in Thailand).

The Dark is real nice. The IPA not as good. Some venues in Bangkok have them. CM has them.

Some of the craft beers in 7/11 are good too. Mostly made by Singha.

Been to the Lao capital but not Luang Prabang. Maybe next year. Wouldnt mind checking out Cambodia too. $1 beers there.

Not been to Vientiane and do not intend to unless I needed to get a Visa. Absolutely love Luang Prabang. Like Thailand but 20 years ago. I don't go searching for things to do, more just a chill out for me and the Mrs for a week. Best coffee ever imho and some great French influenced bakeries.

Very leisurely lunch by the river whilst necking a couple of beerlao. Everything is shut by 9pm so not a place for party people. 5 minute stroll from where I usually stay (Villa Chitdara) is a small really authentic Italian pizza place - 2 young lads who really know what they are doing. Nice to grab one heading home at night.

Only downside is needing to lug around a suitcase containing the local currency just to pay for an evening out. 555

The capital is like the 1970s. Very old school. I liked it. The currency is wacky. Felt like a billionaire. The mrs loves temples and cafes so she would like LP. She speaks Lao too. Probably should go.

More to Krung Thep & TH, than Suk, Silom, Soi Cowboy, Nana, Bangla Rd, Soi 6 & Irish Pubs.

Agree 100%. Unfortunately, the stereotypes do not get that, and never will. They just came to Thailand for one reason. Cheap beer and easy women. That´s why they are so disappointed when they end up with a bar girl that could be there granddaughter and then get robbed by their savings. Pure idiots that learned nothing through life.

Just think - around 50% of them have had a go on your Mrs.

You must be very stupid! On top of that you are insulting me and my wife, as a person who never had a correct upbringing to form a decent man. You have become a narrow minded person that seem to feed from the bottom of the ocean.

What you think about and your view of how it is, seems to be taken from the Thai bar scene and red-light districts. All of us, do not have the search that low in society to find a woman to live with, marry and have children with. So no, 50% of then have not been having sex with my wife. That is just something that goes on in the world you and your friends live. One must assume you guys like to share.

With a comment like you just did, you should be very lucky you did it on an anonymous forum. Otherwise, that is just the kind of comments that lands people in problems. Anyway, at your level you probably don´t understand that either. Next time you take your best wife beater, flip-flops and 1960-style trousers on, just think about that with a little bit of luck in life, you could have been in a totally different league. I understand, though. You just have to take it as life has been serving it to you.

Boring as hell is Laos, far more going off in Cambodia.

He was joking dude.

The other point is that when these bars open, the location can depend on the rents charged by landlords.

Some areas are just not viable due to ridiculously high rents.

Going back to the original topic.

I like pubs and pub grub, but I suppose there's no good reason why an establishment serving beer and food has to be British or Irish. For example, a place serving pizza, sandwiches, and other food along with beer would work for me.

...because people want to have peace. As a neighbor you would see day by day and night by night totally drunk Brits, brawling, shouting, grabbing for prostitutes.

Who would like that?

I do not see much of that at the Irish bars I frequently visit. I think the scenario you describe comes with certain areas and also clients. Higher beer and drink prices help prevent much or most of the noise.

Are you serious? Is that something to joke about? Just to put you in the same box, I guess! Absolutely not acceptable as a joke, as it goes far over what is funny. What you are saying here, is that insulting a person's dignity is today acceptable and a joke? Like I say, lucky for him that he didn´t express such dirt in front of me. You also seem to need to learn that there are limits that most sensible people don´t cross.

On Suriwong, I was in Shenanigans and these two places nearby.

Westerners with that want to spend a lot of dough in British of Irish pubs likely live in the Sukhumvit.

I would also guess that the pubs are more geared to British tourists. Not sure there are really that many Brits living here that want to go to a pub that would keep it open.

I also think there is a pub near Phrom Pong, not sure of the name as well as the big pub Brit Club

Hmmm, guess he struck a nerve....

Nice British pub in Khonkaen.

Just saying, if ever you are passing, it's connected to the Avani hotel.

What's the difference between a Pub and a bar/restuarant.

Always assumed you were a Brit?

An English Pub is unlike any other boozing venue in the world.

Unique to England and sadly dying out but all the fun lunchtime and evenings with the lads revolved around the local pub.

Fantastic result for the Roos. A point against USA or Paraguay and they are through to the knockout stages. Quite likely they could go through without grabbing another point as 8 out of the 12 third place teams go through. A +2 goal difference already gives them a great chance. Quite intrigued which word got deleted from your post above - obviously can't repeat it as it will be deleted again.

So the Socceroos are now the Roos.

That is the problem with many Pubs these days, filled with 'the lads' only interested in watching telly, or on their phones.

Or they have turned into expensive 'restaurants', with noisy kids running around, no parental control or discipline.

How are the Pubs in Scotland, Wales and NI?

What a stupid comment. Nobody moved here to find English / Irish food.

I've lived here over 30 years, since I was 21. I'm not a dinosaur. I like Thai food, I like all sorts of food. If I hang out with Thai mates it'll be in Thai pubs. Sometimes I want to go and hang out in an English pub, have a few pints and have a nice steak and ale pie. What's wrong with that?

In your eyes if you live here you can only exclusively eat Thai food and drink Thai beer in Thai bars with Thai people. You can't eat Italian, or Japanese, or Mexican, or Indian, or anything.

The most popular restaurants in UK these days seem to be well over-priced Thai.

Funny ! You´re a real comedian. No, he did not strike any nerve. The only thing that was necessary, was to inform about that there are things you don´t mention and then try to convince people it´s a joke. Maybe you are the same kind, that insults the wife of the man, and the man you are addressing by spouting vulgar nonsense. I wouldn´t be suprised if you belong to the same league.
