Why no British or Irish pubs outside of Sukhumvit?

Best Pub/Bar in TH for me, Chit Beer, having craft beers, open air, along the river. Really doesn't get any better ...

Like I said, need to get out more. Not all are 'cocktail joints / tourist traps. Y'all need to get off the beaten path.

More to Krung Thep & TH, than Suk, Silom, Soi Cowboy, Nana, Bangla Rd, Soi 6 & Irish Pubs.

Plus you get a boat trip which is fun.

The objective is to restrict the population of overweight, bald, tattooed individuals to the Sukhumvit area.

Thanks, yes they are very lively and have draft beer. But not in the area I'm trying to find..

Why do you require English pubs? I find them dull when the sport is not on. One in CM has 4 screens in each corner showing different sports called The Score. Irish Clock in Udon is pleasant but I would not go weekly unless I wanted to watch sport.

Which takes 3 minutes and costs 3 baht. Why comment if you have never been there? Fun coming back if its after sunset. You simply turn your phone flashlight on and point it toward land. Within 5 minutes a small longtail will pull up and you can have a little fun negociating how much to return direct from Chits will cost you.

Mostly to get fresh Heineken or similar European beers on tap (draft).

Thanks. But again, I'm trying to find a place not in Sukhumvit or Sala Daeng areas - looking north of Ploen Chit. The JW Marriott (ploen chit) has Heineken draft. Maybe InterCon or HI at Chit Lom (foreign correspondents club has draft Heineken too).

I hope you find a place. Not much on google maps. Maybe some of the clubs in Ratchada have it.

Accent.Ari. They purport to have Guinness and San Mig draught.

I'd settle for a Tiger pint but even that is getting thinner on the ground.

Draught beer is work and you need good staff. Need I say more.

Yeah, I'd settle for a Tiger pint too.

I guess the other reason imported draft isn't carried by many is because the keg is quite big and has to be used up within 5 days or so or it goes flat - so that's expensive if they get through only part of a keg (though Heineken is made locally)

Yes, I know. Thanks. But looking for English/Irish pubs. Not Thai cowboy wooden furniture and Leo beer. There are a couple of other Thai pubs just north of TV5 (Army base) on Phahon Yothin - but full of Thai conscripts. Edit to add: There is also Sutisan Road near there - sometimes called the "Thai Soi Cowboy" - but again probably not a place for farangs.. you'd be the only one there.

Sukhumvit generally means Lower Suk Nana to Asok, 2 stops on the BTS gets you to Thonglor with the Old English right there. Then down Soi 55/Thonglor a fair way to Soi 9 is Churchills a newish place.

The Old English can get a bit busy and has a strange happy hour special on draught Leo. Never been to Churchills.

So is Tiger. Same brewery.

I guess the most recent addition to this type of pub is The Shakespeare, Ekkamai. Certainly meets the OP's requirements in terms of venue but sadly for him in the wrong location, like most of the others.

Not a pub and no draught beer but Fatty's Bar and Grill in Din Daeng is a cosy place. A stroll from Rama 9 MRT.

But on open mike night you may have to listen to Paul doing Bob Dylan Hahaha.

You mean Socker, of course.

The word "soccer" actually originated in England in the late 19th century, not in the United States. It is a slang abbreviation of "association football," a name created in 1863 to distinguish the newly codified sport from "rugby football".

So Americans are not wrong to call it soccer.

Brits invented tipping and the Scots invented Halloween.

I get out lots. Have been for decades. Long enough that I can remember the Barbican near Sala Daeng. Great place (not a pub, more a bar and grill). Up and down Nana, Soi Cowboy+Soi 23 pubs, Royal Oak, O'Shea's, Robin Hood, The Australian, Hanrahans (name keeps changing), Black Swan, etc. etc.

But I'm sick of making the skytrain trip there and back. As I said I am looking for more options north of Ploen Chit. Pubs. Not bars.

The Barbican was an excellent place. Had many a good night there in the good old days. Really good food too - they had a crazy Dutch chef with bells on his shoes, Helfred. Very talented man.

That's the American burger joint, right? Never been but others have and say it's good. You know, 10 years ago, you'd struggle to find a place that specializes in burgers. Now I've lost track there are so many. A bit like the proliferation of coffee chains - 20 years ago it was starbucks and that's it - and even then, they didn't open until 10 am!

Yes, at the end of the Japanese hostess bar street - Soi Tanniya - where 'gujing' were not allowed to enter the bars. Barbican was an oasis there.

I was the one who gave you the heart. I totally agree. It's football. Basically, if they call it soccer, that means they can't play it ie the U S of A. Can't host a decent tournament either.

You need to educate yourself. SOCCER was so named to differentiate between Association Football and Rugby, which unfortunately is, in USA, called American Football, even though it is played mostly with the hands. In Soccer, if a ball is played with the hand, it is a foul.

Now back on topic. Cannot get a decent pint or a big TV here in Phitsanulok. Must stay at home with me cans.

And do you call it soccer? If so, jog on. My point was in jest that the nations who call it soccer aren't necessarily the best at it.

I don't know if you get any holiday entitlement in your day job of being a pedantic, annoying knob but if you do, take a day off FFS.

Actually, the are NO clubs that I can think of, or nations which call it soccer. Can you imagine Manchester City Soccer Club, MCSC. Or the FISA World Cup!

So I apologise for my perceived pedantry, and I do not have a day job these days.

Americans don't call it soccer?

Australia national team are not referred to as the 'Socceroos'?

OK, but I have never heard it used. And it was you who said, jokingly, that it is only teams or countries who cannot play it very well. So Australia?

Hey, as long as we know what the game is, and the rules, who cares. Well done Scotland, and Morocco.

Now back on topic. Any one wanting to watch games in my neck of the woods, you are more than welcome. Federbrau and a nice Chicken Dupiaza can be provided, yes even for the morning matches. 555

Because there are far too much British and Irish in Thailand already. Why the heck do you people move to Thailand to find your beer and food? Better you guys stay home and go meet friends at after work bars. The younger guys will just love to talk to the dinosaurs! 😂
