Kasikorn Banking App can see other apps on my phone.

Featured Replies

Recently, when I go to open my Kasikorn Bank app, it says I have an app/s from an unknown source, which I do, they are not from the Play Store, and I basically have to delete it / them to be able to get into my Kasikorn Bank App.

How is it that one app can see other apps that are on your phone?

To the Mods, I'll post the same thread in the IT section. Take your pick which one you want to let run.

It will require the Thai sim card though, won't it? What a PIA, changing sim cards into another phone every time you want to use their app. Easier to delete the app, go into Kasikorn, then reinstall the app.

I also have to do this on a PC, since you can't sign in on a PC without the app.

From my perspective agreed.

However I don't know specifically about Kasikorn but with the SCB app I have been using it on a phone using wi fi only. The registered sim is in another phone and has been since installation over 2 years ago.

If he wants to use mobile data out and about then yes he may have an issue. No idea as not tried.

He could always use another sim with data

I had to swap out the Sim card I used to register my BKK app out to another phone and replace it in the original phone with a new SIM with no problems. It of course means that I bank on the original phone with the new sim but get SMS on the other phone which has the original SIM.

PS; I do not use Wi-Fi data via the SIMS but external Wi-Fi's.

Yes, quite normal, my UK bank sms go to one of my burner phones

This will stop those other Apps from working. Those other Apps have special permissions such as being able to read the screen which is why your banking App refuses to work with them active. Once inactive, your banking App has no idea they are on your phone.

If you want them to work as normal just turn them on again through the Accessibility function. To speed things up in the future for Apps you use a lot, you can make the Accessibility a speed key at the bottom of your screen, or you can set up a switch on/off function of your desired Apps with a quick press shortcut (such as pressing the power button and volume down buttons simultaneously).

Common Apps which have security issues for the banking App are ad blocking apps, virus hunting Apps and blue light filter Apps.

And from previous comments here for Thai banking apps any VPN or similar - which makes this kind of action potentially risky as open to MITM attacks especially in bars/coffee shops etc.

Just a quick question as I do not use banking apps. Is this part of their security or just another f up.

Their security - imagine you had a rogue app that could read your screen with send that data out when using the app - or something like that anyway.

VPN's I can only think because of the number of dodgy malware/ad slinging vpns that there are out there.

It’s part of their security policies. The banks don’t want any potential vulnerabilities on the user’s devices.

Thanks for the replies.

Just tested it without the sim card in the phone and the app from an unknown source deleted and I can open up the Kasikorn Bank app.

For anyone wondering, the app from an unknown source is just a pirate sport streaming app, nothing special.

I'm running the same thread in the IT Section because how is it one app can know all the other apps you have on your phone. I have never heard of this before. For me, I feel it's a breach of privacy.

And neither should the users of the Aps.

Go to "App permissions" on your phone and set them up appropriately.

I'm aware of the app permissions section in the settings. I allow certain apps to use microphone and camera, all access the photo gallery. This is normal.

I was unaware in permissions there is a setting that allows an app to see all your other apps.

Big red flag app.

Not a good idea to have such apps on a device used to access your funds.

When you installed the app you agreed to the policies without reading it before you ran it. The bank app is sandboxed secure though it has to allow the user to function access, that is where vulnerabilities can exploit and record your input actions and send them to the developer of the hacked version of the app you installed.

I run a paid antivirus app on all my devices. It passed their scan/s.

Does this happen on a PC? Can one program see all your other programs?

BTW, this is only recent. I've ran the Kasikorn Bank app on the phone with the other app for years without an issue.

I'm thinking we need 2 phones 1 to use the banking and

government stuff

and another one for everything else

its a bit of a brain torture exercise to implement.

You can use all the banking apps with wifi, after you have registered the app, which only can be done on with a SIM.

You can register with a sim not registered in your name, but later on you will get asked for proof of registration in your name

I'm starting to think the same way, especially know I know you do not have to have your Thai sim card in your phone to access the Kasikorn Bank app. I don't pay with

Q-Code anyway, I always pay cash. Might have to eventually get a "man bag" for the phones. 🙂

I’m with them too and have no problem. I have an iPhone so maybe it’s your hardware choice!

I have an Androi8d phone. It's not the hardware, it's another app on my phone that was downloaded and installed from an unknown source, not the Google Play Store. This is not so unusual, but what surprised me was the Kasikorn Bank app knew I had another app that was from an unknown source. This indicates to me that the Kasikorn Bank app can see every other app I have on my phone, and I'm no fan of that.

Perhaps there is some security features that banks never let you know (to save their own a** when the time comes).

This is for your protection, to prevent a rogue app from stealing your banking info.

I got news for you

The Israelites have zero-click spyware.

Kasikorn Bank does not.

Any questions? ⁉️

I changed the default keyboard on my Android phone and my HSBC app refused to work until I changed it back. So it's not just other apps that can cause a problem.

Maybe it cannot see other apps, but it can see the settings of the phone
