Airports Raise International Departure Charge in Thailand

Featured Replies

It's actually $12-$13 but lets not split hairs. Over 50% of Thailand's tourists are from Asia, and yes many of them may very well decide to travel elsewhere because of this increase. Not everyone has the privilege to look down on others because of their financial standing.

Who's looking down on anyone? Tourism is a business. I'll never stay in a 5 Star hotel, take a luxury cruise to the Antarctic, or look at the earth from space on a tourist rocket. And I sure don't fault any of them for not making it cheap enough that I could, without ruining it for their well heeled customers.

Thailand could use a little less mass tourism to reduce the wear and tear on (for example) Maya Bay.

Should make it cash only on exit !

It used to be like that, you had to queue at Don Muaeng to pay your departure tax before you went through immigration.

Just a hooker tax, same as the 800K in a Thai bank.. You want to party, see the blinking lights. Marry a Thai lady.. It aint cheap in Thailand. The government has put a steep price on what the number one draw is in Thailand.

I love higher taxes on the rich international travers. People flying business should pay at least double.

You must be a cheap charlie who can’t afford the business class then. Poor you. 😢😢

If you make an issue of 390 baht, you just stay home and do not travel. Even to the neighbouring town

So in your opinion WHanson why are tourists turning away from Thailand. Give me half a dozen reasons for us to keep faith in Thailand as oppsed to Viet or Cambodia.

Are waves of tourists literally spinning on their heels and turning away? Where can we see this? Are there videos of these hordes of people storming out of ticket agencies? Everywhere I go in the US people are jealous of me and wish they could get away from their lives and come here. I have NEVER personally heard anyone complain or say they won't come here because of fees. The only complainers are you and all the rest of the armchair quarterbacks here. So nobody owes you any reasons for anything, you're absurd. You already have your own reasons. So leave already and give the rest of us a break from your whining.

or does it stick only to the shareholders, as usual

Derogatory comment.

PSC charges are by law to be allocated to airport infrastructure.

Unlike Air Passenger Duty levied by Heathrow, which is general taxation.
