They love doing it for every pathetic council flat turd who washes up in Thailand, so why not help one of those people's victims? I'd pitch in. When a Westerner is arrested, the first instinct of the police is to monetise the incident to its fullest potential. The victim's rights are low down on the list of priorities, particularly if the family of the victim are rural subsistence farmers with no connections.

I'm fairly certain the perpetrator will be footing her hospital bill plus a hefty amount for compensation.

I'd certainly hope so.

Whether he knew it was acid or not is almost irrelevant. Throwing any substance into someone's face is assault. He had no idea what it was, it could just as easily have been bleach or another corrosive chemical.

If it was acid and it has caused permanent disfigurement, I hope the compensation is enough to support this lady for the rest of her life. My concern is that he serves his sentence, gets deported, and simply goes home while she lives with the consequences forever. Authorities should cooperate internationally to ensure compensation continues if a lump sum can't be paid.

One question though. Why is a cleaner carrying acid strong enough to cause immediate facial disfigurement on a cleaning trolley? - I wonder if the liquid was an alkali cleaner etc (and the term acid was just used as a generic term for a corrosive cleaning chemical).

Yeah - I can see that - probably a strong beach or something - though thats academic - the mere act of throwing any 'cleaning' (or unknown liquid) into someones face is an abhorrent act that deserves and extreme penalty.

Interesting that you mentioned Cannabis psychosis because I just discovered that a young family member's husband suffers from it and goes into rages when the high wears off. He's a large, strong man and it must be terrifying for her and the kids. He hid it from the rest of us for years.
