Police at Mueang Pattaya Police Station said the British man, whose identity has not been disclosed, filed a formal complaint after noticing the cash was gone. Officers reviewed CCTV footage from a McDonald’s restaurant in Soi 13/2, where the theft is believed to have taken place. The footage reportedly shows the man asleep in an outdoor seating area when three women approached him.

According to investigators, the video shows two of the women sitting beside the sleeping man before removing cash from his trousers, while a third woman appeared to keep watch nearby. A staff member later approached the group, checked on the man, and appeared to speak briefly with the women before they left the scene. Police are now reviewing additional CCTV footage from surrounding areas to trace their movements.

Officers have appealed for members of the public with relevant information to assist in identifying and locating the suspects. The investigation remains ongoing, with authorities continuing to gather evidence to establish the full circumstances of the theft.

Investigators are to continue mapping the movements of those involved using available CCTV from the restaurant and surrounding streets in Pattaya. Police will attempt to establish the identities of the three women and determine the exact sequence of events leading up to the theft.

Officers may also seek further statements from restaurant staff and any witnesses who were present at the time. The case remains active as authorities work to verify evidence and build a timeline of the incident. No arrests have yet been announced at this stage.

If he was targeted because someone spotted he had a wad of cash on him...there's a lesson to be learned there. Many a time, I've looked up when paying for something to find Thais with their eyes riveted on my wallet, craning their necks trying to see how much cash I was carrying. Not saying anyone was planning a strong-arm robbery, and most of the time probably just idle curiosity or trying to size you up, but I don't want anyone getting the idea I'm Daddy Warbucks, and a prime candidate for being overcharged, so if I remember to do it, I'll leave excess cash at home before going shopping. Granted, easier said than done when you're traveling. Have to say, Pattaya more and more like a predatory environment best to be avoided.

Probably a fair chunk of the guys entire intended spending money for his holiday. A holiday he's probably saved for and looked forward to all year. You have to sympathise, like. It was stupid, but I'm sure falling asleep outside McDonald's wasn't something he planned.

He did pretty well to still have 30k on him at 05.30 in the morning (if CCTV time is correct). Given his condition he likely started with a whole lot more. Or maybe, just maybe, it's all a made up lot of nonsense.

Although the local media likes to publicize mostly petty crimes like this that happen in Pattaya, Bangkok, and Phuket, the reality is that these Thai tourist cities are actually safer than most western tourist places--and not just for petty crimes but for violent crimes, as well. Per Google:

This seems the most likely explanation.

There is a top comment where ASN posted this article on Facebook that says they know the victim. According to the comment, his drink was spiked and a man followed him to the McDonalds. Once he passed out the man took a photo and then disappeared, and shortly after the women showed up.

Can't have been a very Fast Food Restaurant if he fell asleep while waiting!
