This is the time of year when the Major League baseball season really starts to get interesting. On Wednesday night, the New York Yankees beat Boston for the second straight night, 4-3. Roger Clemens had a no-hitter going into the sixth inning. The Red Sox still have a 6-game lead on the Yankees in the American League's East Division. But the Yankees are tied with the Seattle Mariners for the Wild Card spot. The Cleveland Indians still lead the AL Central Division. They beat Minnesota 4-3 on Wednesday. And the California Angels beat Seattle 8-2 and have opened up a six-game lead.

In the National League East Division, Philadelphia is closing quickly on the New York Mets. They beat the Mets 3-2 on Wednesday night. They are three games behind the Mets. In the Central Division, Milwaukee beat the Chicago Cubs 8-1 on Wednesday and are 1 1/2 games behind. St. Louis is two games back after losing to Houston.

The National League's West Division is playing the best baseball. The Arizona Diamondbacks have the best record in the National League, but they only have a one-game lead on the San Diego Padres. The Los Angeles Dodgers are four games back.

The month of September will be very exciting for us baseball fans. How many ThaiVisa members are baseball fans?

Do you mean rounders? Isn't that a girls' game?

Rounders , netball and hockey, together with some strange form of touch rugby make up a nations main sporting interests.

All 4 are regarded as girls games.

Cheers

Somewhat. It is extremely distressing to sit next to one's g/f at a game while she comments on the boys' bulges or cute bodies. I feel so inadequate........

My beloved adopted Bosox are atop the east and are peeing on the Yankees. What more could I ask for? (mmmkay, maybe some tix to the temple of pleasure - Fenway.)

Baseball will be very interesting this fall if the Yankees and Tigers both make it into the playoffs. This would mean a dramatic fall from the heights by either Boston or Cleveland, but the Bosox have done this kind of finish previously. And what happened to the Pale Hose? Injuries, pitching and hitting must have taken their toll.

Boston 10, NY Yankees 1

BOSTON (AP) -- Josh Beckett and Eric Hinske pushed back at the surging New York Yankees and tightened Boston's grip on the AL East.

Beckett became the first 19-game winner in the majors and Hinske provided the muscle, bowling over Jorge Posada in a home-plate collision to help the Red Sox rout New York 10-1 Saturday and open 5 1/2 -game lead with two weeks and a day to play.

According to the Elias Sports Bureau, it was the first time that two pitchers sharing the major league lead in wins in September (Beckett and the Yankees' Chien-Ming Wang) have faced each other since New York's David Cone met Boston's Pedro Martinez on Sept. 8, 1998

Go Sox!

And the rubber match of the 3 game series is now underway with two of the oldest warhorses for starters... Sox' Schilling (41 in 2 months) and Yankees' Clemens (45).

Anyone who thinks baseball is the same as rounders must have been hit in the face with a cricket ball more than once.

What's the difference then between rounders & baseball....&.....Netball & NBA ? :o

If you are good, about USD 10 million per year, per person. If you are very good, double it.

Clemens hasn't pitched that good in many years. I will spare you the details.

Nice to see that the Yankees won 4-3 thus taking two out of three from the crumbling Beantowners. And Detroit swept the Twinkies! The cream is finally rising to the top!

Now if the Jays will get interested, Toronto can sweep Boston and do the Yankees and the rest of the world a huge favour.

yeah yeah... Clemens pitched very well and Schilling did too for many innings.... a 1-1 tie after 6 . A good down to the wire game...

now looking ahead... Boston's remaining games against Toronto (a cold .497 team mired in a 3-7 record for the last 10 games) followed by Tampa Bay (.420 at 5-5), Oakland (.490 at 5-5), and Minnesota (.483 with 3-7) looks promising for the prospects to avoid the often-repeated occurrence of a season ending collapse.

Although the Yanks are also facing similar losing teams down the stretch.

It should be a yet another good close-out race.
