Bangkok Pattaya always charges more, they are best for difficult jobs but a root canal and crown is fairly basic so yes cheaper elsewhere

Seems more statistical analysis was needed prior to getting the work done. I know a guy who does great charts.

i just looked at the price list of my place, root canal molar 6,000 baht max, crown porcelain 5,000, so total 11,000 baht max

Oral& Dental Care

I used BIDC in Bangkok. Not cheap but far more cheap then in Norway. Perfect work. Root canal and titan crown in all molars. 15 years ago and still perfect.

Last year on my study trip to Pattaya I went to have the side front upper tooth done for a root canal .

I went to the BKK Pattaya international Hospital on the highway

About 3 visits over 2 weeks

I paid 19000 baht but that didn't NOT include crown

Now a friend has told me I paid TOO much!.

He got his with a ROOT canal for 12,000 baht at a clinic in Soi 6 and that apparently INCLUDES the crown

Now I must admit as soon as I got back to Australia I went to the dentist here who did a X ray on that new root canal and said it was fantastic work

But 19k, now I'm angry

I was ripped off he paid 12k !!!!!!.

When it comes to teeth hard to say you got ripped off, sure BPH always over charge more but

When it comes to teeth I wouldn't concern myself with overpaying it doesn't seem to be that much more breaking the bank.

You will always hear comments like this bit when it comes to ones teeth it can be more painful that a broker leg . So you do what you got to do as my late brother use to say he was a master dental craftmen use to say Dentist have a license to steal.

Has anyone ever gone to the dentist told you need this done and not done it.

He made crowns for his Dr clients in 70's he charge Dr's for a porclein ceramic crown 150.00 USD, you ended up even insurance 5 to 10 times.

When it hurts one isn't running around looking for estimates.

I've heard on the Darkside many Dentist says difficult need to go BPH, personally if you are happy then you didn't get taken.

Major dental I've gone to German D, Long ago did a crown 10,000 baht gaurantee 5 year just under it started to hurt bad and two days I had a trip plan to States.

He did an x-ray went into the tooth inserted a time capsule pain killing so I can go on my trip good for a year but I return 3 weeks later had all 4 roots killed on the molar the Dentist drilll a hole top of the crown to access took two days covered up the hole today still good. I remember the bill 20,000 baht. Could I gotten it cheaper?

One can do a lot with 20,000 baht but just having the pain go away was worth it.

Everywhere is cheaper than Norway?

Remember that the cost for a root canal treatment has different prices at the same dentist depending on where in the mouth the tooth is and how many roots it have. Front teeth are she cheapest about 4,000 to 11,000, while molars in the back can be 20,000

It all depends on the no. of roots the tooth has. My husbabd paid 24K incl. crown for a 3root tooth. This was 10yrs ago.

There's always someone who will do a job cheaper. But, how good will that job be? According to your dentist, BHP did a 'fantastic job', which likely cost more than some other places. For me, a fantastic job is worth the extra cost. I use BHP for all my dental work and my dentist there also always does a fantastic job. I feel super fortunate to have a dentist as good as she is.

I did root canal AND crown (med quality) for the same amount in BKK some years ago. But again depends upon your root canal treatment, some can be though in multiple roots and use many hours of dentist to fix.

Maybe you need to do another research paper on the costs of dental treatment in Thailand. I would suggest looking at costs in both Pattaya and BKK.

Highly recommended Pro Dent opposite terminal 21, has been my dentist for 10+ years and was an orthodontist for 20 odd years at Bangkok hospital.

Must be the same lady who did mine !

I tried to tip her 20 baht but she refused to take it

Well now ..how much do you estimate for a crown on the right side of the jaw upper tooth ?

Could I perhaps get some quotes , would that be too much to ask.... surely not !!

Of course you paid too much. In my opinion, hospitals that cater to farang are hardwired to charge sums roughly equivalent to US hospital fees. I recently had two, yes two, (2), stiches removed from my forehead at a well known Thai Hospital. In attendance for this life threatening major medical procedure were no less than a Plastic Surgeon and not one but two nurses. I could'nt believe it. Took less than a minute. I was charged for one Plastic Surgeon and two nurses. Licensed to st__l.

I always found talking about how much things cost déclassé...

But the Chinese apparently like to play the HOW MUCH YOU PAY FOR THAT game, too 😄

Yes well first I went to Dental Smile in South Pattaya

Who were nice, done X rays etc , but advised me it was a "difficult job" and told me BKK Pattaya hospital would be better , no idea why

But ok it seems to be done well according to the Australian dentist who did a X ray last week on it

Now I need a crown on it

Dentist told me I needed two wisdom teeth extracted. He said they were too deep for him to do. Went to the government hospital and they did one for 1,000 baht. Said they wouldn't do the other as it was too close to a nerve.

Secret, I've realised that if you recommend a place they get busier and put the prices up, so I've stopped doing it. Use it as a price guide

I think I know your place. Yeah, better keep it a secret.

Incredibly how expensive dental work has become in Thailand. I had about a dozen rootcanals done in Thailand over the years, all before 2016. I remember paying anywhere from 1000 to 3000 Baht.

Since 2016 been treated in Vietnam, where you can still get a root canal and a crown done for under 5000 Baht.

i go for cleaning. I'll probably stop that, I've realised if i use a specific toothpaste I don't get tea/coffee stains

Is the brand of this stain-countering toothpaste a secret too?

Some dentist in Thailand are more expensive than others. You could have checked with other dentist prices. Next time get a 2nd opinion.

I wouldn’t lose any sleep over it
