No they are not communists. in Fact I suggest it's very doubtful how many US Americans even know the traditional or the more current meaning of the word communist. As above 'Democratic Socialists' is a more relevenat and accurate term and it's in plce in mnay countries: japan. Australia, many scandinavian countries, Japan and more...

The above reminds me of growing up in Ausralia in a strong manufacturing society, we talked about this is varous ways at home, my astute well informed parents strongly rejected the label of 'communist' (for our city / our local society), what they did accept was ter,s like 'share the wealth', 'support each other' and especially ensure that all citizens had low cost / no cost quality modern health care.
