I saw on golden triangle site (http://www.gt-rider.com/bikes.html#BUYINGABIKE )

that foreigners need:

* confirmation of ID

* confirmation of local address

according to their site this "means a copy of your passport and a letter from your local immigration office or consul confirming your thai address"

well the passport copy is easy.

but how do i prove my local address to the immigration office?

has anyone done this? are there standard forms for requesting this letter from the immigration office?

Address can be proved ( or given ) to Immigration by using the " House book " if you own a home or condo, a rental agreement if you are renting or.................. if you have a Work Permit............that in itself should suffice as it carries your details in Thai.

Hi, just to add to above post if you are only renting you need a copy of the house book, signed and dated, a copy of landlords id again signed and dated and a copy of rental agreement. Take along to immigration with a copy of passport and hey presto 1 letter with confirmation of address. At Ranong it cost 200 baht and had no problems. :o

Get a proof of residence from your consulate. Bring a phone bill ,Electic or house reg. Passport. valid visa, Cash.

Take original POR and passport (Not copy) to the bike shop they will make the PP copy and have you sign it.

Easy...

yes, in bkk you will get a PoR from the embassy(atleast the swedish) with a touristvisa.

Now i´m riding around on my new motorbike happy as ever :o

In pattaya it seemed to be more hassle regestering a MC....

answer from mai sai immigration : '' not possible with tourist visa , need a non immigrant ''

Which is why they have the provision for the letter from the embassy.

At my embassy, you fill out a form, wait for the notary, swear that all the information is correct, pay the fee (1800B) and voila => Official Notarized Embassy confirmed address in Thailand.

Cost is much more. Hastle about the same. But, at least there is a way when immigration throws up the roadblocks.

Maybe it´s different from embassy to embassy, for me(sweden) it costed 500baht and only needed to show a rentalagreement showing my address and my passport.

30minutes later i had the Proof of Residence

update :

good news :

my dealer took me to the transport office where we came back with a note to show to immigration

at immigration , mae sai , they looked at the note and start preparing the document without another question and very friendly service

the document , original and copy , is valid for 30 days to register car and motorbike

so a happy ending after all
