Please can anyone advise......

All works well on my PC untill I play a game, then it will freeze up or the PC will switch off...

I can be on the PC all day with no problems, just the problem is if playing any games...

Is it the Graphics card? Is it work putting in a Geforce 7600 GT or 8600 GT ??

MSI Mother Board K8N Platinum,

AMD Athlon64bit XP3000+

large CPU fan + 5 case fans + a new 420w power supply2x 1024 DDR PC2700 memory [shows memory as 2047MB]

Nividia GeForce 5200 [new drivers ]

160gig + 200gig Sata Maxfactor HDD

Asus DVD Rom [new drivers]

LG DVD Ram RW [new drivers]

I run XP Pro with SP2, and Office 2003... most games are from 'Gamehouse'

Did the games work before is this a new problem? If they worked before just resent try a restore point and see if an update or something has caused it. If they never worked at all, you'll have to reserch if you have a program compatable problem. Try the compatable mode options to run them as 98se or 2000 it should be on pro as it is in home version.

edit add info: for my xphome its, start>programs>accessories>program compatibility wizard then just follow the steps

Time ago I overclocked my AMD-CPU, Video-converting didn't work, also some games crashed.

After going back to given rates everything worked perfectly...

Yeah, look at possible overheating of the CPU, bad contact between the cooler and the processor perhaps.

If you are overclocking, stop and see if the problem goes away. Download one of the CPU temperature monitor programs (try a Google search for a free one).

Games were new installed, new vesions...

Bought a GeForce 8500 GT graphics card yesterday [3,700 baht]

Now everything appears to work fine.. and whole PC appears twice as fast

From what i can see, many New game run on directX 9.....

The 'old' card GeForce FX 5200 was up to directX 8 card...

the 'new' GeForce 8500GT is the next generation DDR3 and up to directX 10...

And if you go to http://www.guru3d.com and download the latest Nvidia Driver from there, you system will even works better!

There are reports of the 5200 overheating when playing high performance games, though with 5 fans wouldn't thought so. Your might want to make sure the fan directions are correct just in case.
