Well, things can always not work out. If you had a 25 year old hottie and it didn't work out you have great memories. If you have a 50 or 60 year old, you invested 100 million baht in her land, and it doesn't work out, you're probably going to kill yourself.

So there's different ways to look at things.

They match the fantasy. The problem is after time and sometimes a short time the bar girl + upcountry peasant ethos seeps out.

Of course, buying property and or a house is always the road to ruin in a relationship. It's fine if you just got 500k in it no big deal.

I've never understood for the life of me why anyone would want to live up country on some dirt road in the middle of nowhere. This lot constantly moans that immigration is hours away and well.. everything is hours away except the buffalo, paddy rats, insects and the in-laws

I would understand it if she was superhot. But this woman was nothing to look at.

That's what I was thinking! He sunk 100 million baht into the Missus' land and tells us "you should only build what you can walk away from". A clear case of do as I say, not as I do. The sermon is not supported by the reality.

What really got me thinking was how does a truck driver accumulate 100 million baht? He must have inherited some houses from richer relatives.

No disagreement. I would point out that those women were not the norm if dealing with the total. The vast majority do not get to be "ruined" ( just joking) by being liberalized by studying abroad. I would say this is true, in this regard, in my home country too.
