15% per month doesn't exist.

Well I suppose it does if it is a massive annual rate. That was the point I was making, you usually quote annual rates. I thought my ISAs had done well doing 8.7% Jan 26 to July 26. On that basis they should exceed 15% for the year. But then I remember the dot com bubble.

Gold and silver for 100,000, Then a townhome or condo in the USA to rent out for the remainder.

I will stick with my Financial Advisor.

Oh it exists, baby.

BWET (Breakwave Tanker Shipping ETF): +1,658.82% YTD (138% per month)

DLLL (GraniteShares 2x Long DELL Daily ETF): +732.04% YTD (61% per month)

MUU / MULL (Direxion/GraniteShares 2x Micron Bull ETFs): +417.55% / +405.07% YTD. (34% per month)

Actually 10-15% is very conservative and doable for the average competent day trader in Forex. It's no big deal.

It's certainly doable short-term (few months) but not sustainable.

Skilled consistent traders usually average 1-2% return per month.

Starting with $10K averaging 10% monthly growth would get you about $100K in 2 years and more than $3M in 5 years.

15% monthly growth would get you more than $43M in just 5 years.

This is simple maths.

My first post states between 5 and 15%. A return of 10 and 15% requires the market to be amenable, it would have been very easy to make that with gold until February this year for instance. Or with the USD/Yen in 2019. However, it does depend on the market, hence my range from 5 to 15%.

Your figure of 1-2% applies only to institutional traders, because they trade large amounts and have a different style. Retail traders, day traders, are more aggressive in their approach, it is not uncommon for good traders to make 5-10% a month, though of course it depends on the market and other factors.

And indeed many traders have made such profits, and far more. It can be done.

Perfect nobodies have made profits of 40 milion USD trading Forex.

It can be done but rather exceptional long-term.

Obviously, such profit figures vary strongly, since there are bound to be months with losses, even for the best of the best fund managers.

And by definition profits in Forex are exceptional, since 90% of traders lose money. It's like with football, tennis or music, only 5% percent or so can really be consistently excellent.

The demonstrable facts on forex trading success - just turning a simple profit - are so poor, as you rightly state.

If the original post was more “you have enough money for life but just found 300k, deploy the funds in a high risk, high reward investing strategy” then ok but it would appear that @Cameroni is exaggerating the likelihood of forex success for the average retail investor.

Not at all. I stated above that most forex traders lose money and only the very best are consistently profitable. I also mentioned the 90% figure.

I was saying how I would trade it, not suggesting everyone could do the same.

Great you are able to generate substantial Forex trading profits on a monthly basis. If the OP had your skillset I suspect he would not wondering how to profitably invest his 300K.

Which is why I followed up in my original post suggesting alternatives for those who are not Forex traders, ie invest in ETFs for instance.

Some ETFs have made over 124% YTD which is 15% per month.

VistaShares Artificial Intelligence Supercycle ETFAISAI Infrastructure & Hardware+124.37% Year-To-Date (YTD)

First Trust Nasdaq Semiconductor ETFFTXLChip Equipment & Design+120.38%.

The key is to make the money work. Whether you trade Forex or invest in ETFs or buy real estate.

Maybe a course idea to add to your business: "How to invest and select profitable ETFs (10+% monthly) including when to take profits".

People know how to select them, it's not hard, it's just they don't want to do the hard work, open an account, do due diligence, make a purchase. It's a bit of work. And it's still risk and costs money.

Those are astronomical returns.

And there's no "catch"?

Do these things eventually crash hard or what?

You still need to know when to cut your losses? They can't keep going up forever, especially not at that rate.

They cannot. They are very legitimate investment vehicles, however, it should be borne in mind that the average life span of an investment fund is 7 years only. There have been notable exceptions. Ken Griffin's Wellington fund was set up in 1990 and is still going strong, returning 12% YTD.

However, most investment funds fold after 7 years. And the big catch with the ETFS that are currently making unreal returns is that they used derivatives and are geared and leveraged, meaning the potential for losses is greater. There are ETFs that only go long and are doing very well, but the catch there is that they invest in things like oil, which is likely going down soon, or in AI or Tech, which some say are in a bubble and will tank eventually too.

So with ETFs too you the old adage of higher risk higher reward applies. If an ETF has higher returns, the risks are higher too. You can get a boring ETF that just mimics the DAX or FTSE or such, but obviously returns won't be as high.

18 minutes ago, save the frogs said:

The catch is indeed to know when to take profits and when to rebalance to less volatile assets when the momemtum has changed, or be ready to either take your loss or wait possibly several years to be in profit again.

That knowledge can be learned as well.

Buy 30, $100k rental units in Chester, PA, USA

FHA loan, 10% down, 15 year @ 6.3%, mortage + tax ~$900

Low rent, brings in $1500 - 900 = $600 X 30 = $18k a month

ROI ~16.7 months,

$300k back in pocket to buy toys, w/ $18k a month income for 15 yrs

15 yr, free & clear, all things the same, $41,224 a month income

With minimum $1M in equity, if no appreciation cheesy

No risk, property value & rents / income would increase, way faster than overhead, but I didn't figure increases in. So extreme negative figures.

I verified FHA loan numbers and rents via AI before posting.

Didn't bother with income tax or appreciation rents & properties, as rents & equity would grow much faster than liabilities.

It wouldn't be 30 x $100k rental units since the OP only said $300k.

FHA Loan, using 10%

Not paying cash, always use someone elses money, when possible, until unneeded. Investing 101
