Halving humanity could help save Earth, scientists say

That is a rather uneducated statement. The skeptic will argue that anything we do could not possibly influence the climate, or effect the atmosphere. The planet is simply too large, and the population is too small to have any effect. Let the ships dump whatever they want into the ocean. The ocean is simply too large for anything we do to damage it.

This frees them to buy as many plastic bottles as they please, drive filthy diesel vehicles, and behave as if nothing effects anything.

It's not us. It is just a cycle. We are not responsible. Do not blame me. I refuse to take any responsibility for my misdeeds and behavior.

Of course, that means you have no respect for your fellow human beings and will die before them.

Sure, this may be cyclical, you know, like dinosaur farts ruining the climate. But the relative handful of people left are going to have it really rough for millennia.

Hahahah save the earth. I love this. Apart from breaking our planet in 2 there is nothing we could ever do that the earth wont recover from. Billions of years of damage and recoveries. 5 or so mass

Global population growth has significantly slowed down, except in Africa.

  • Halving is a good idea ... start wth the scientist.

You first old chap.

I was going to say ‘you and those you care about first’ but spotted my error just in time.

Actually, I think that would be better. No one to miss.

There are 2 ways to depopulate the Planet: kill the living or prevent the living.

  • The first one has been around for a long time - wars.

  • The second one is more novel, where people are engineered not to have offspring.

Both lead to the same result, and both have the same challenge - who decides who goes and who stays, and difficulty in controlling that during the purge.

3 ways actually.

A cabal of deeply evil "scientists" could develop a new virus in a lab through Gain of Function and have it somehow "escape" from the lab. Job done.

If said virus turns out to not be lethal enough, evil media and naive tech nutjobs could force the population to be jabbed & boosted with dangerous muck to finish the job.

Sounds farfetched doesn't it🤣

Sounds plausible.

To make it even more diabolical, it doesn't kill you right away.

Have the media keep publishing articles every 2 weeks about how it will eventually kill you, making you live in fear and paranoia for your remaining days.

ie slow mental torture before imminent early untimely agonizing death.

21 out of 22 nations in Africa have the highest birth rates in the world. And that is one of the major reasons to limit immigration from Africa. There are others.

Do you remember Sally Struthers' Save the Children campaign? They addressed one side of the equation but not the birth rate side. Look at what they created.

However it happened, in the end, the virus did kill a significant number of elderly people.

Our soon to be arriving AI overlords will (sooner or later) likely prefer no humans left at all.

No, they will look after us like we look after the roses in the garden. The Earth is the result of the biota. Strip away the biologicals, and it ends up like Mars. Guess what struggles on Mars; electronics. Life creates conditions amenable to AI. We look after the flowers, because they help create an environment we enjoy.

So said James Lovelock before he copped it.

Are you suggesting that they should be planted in the ground?
