If in Thailand.

Agreed - the only branch of HSBC in Thailand is in Bangkok and I was told I have to go there and deposit minimum 500,000 baht - only advantage was that it's 10 GBP per int' t/f rather than 21, but no faster.

Therefore I've gone Kasikorn and opened one with 2000 TB + 200 for ATM card. Brought in 1.5m since to buy a truck and everything has been easypeasy so far.

There are HSBC branches in Bangkok. So I think I'm good ... zarusoba!

You need to open an account at one of the Thai branches. I don't know what their requirements are for documentation but you can find the answer on the board.

Okay thanks. I'm still going to keep my HSBC account. That is my only bank account. I opened it on line and have been using them for the past 3 years. I'm stationed in Japan and never had a problem with them. Wanting to live in Thailand was one of the main reasons I opened an account with HSBC ... zarusoba!

HSBC Thailand is very restrictive account rules compared with Kasikorn and SCB unless you are a Premier level customer. I have a US Premier account with accounts in Thailand and Korea and find this works well when moving funds. But my Kasokorn account offers more services and flexiblity in Thailand.
