I prefer the architecture and food of Mexico. But not by much. Chinese courtyard hutongs in Peking were very nice. Chinese porcelain is superior to just about anything else made. And I prefer Asia's better control of violent crime. You don't see too many beheadings displayed on public highways in Asia.

Their unique forte is refinement of what others invent.

The saw, either push or pull, was used in China long before the Japanese ever dreamed of it....sometime back before the birth of Christ.....maybe about 200 BC....or so.......

The Japanese writing system was adopted from the Chinese writing system, since the Japanese were too lazy to invent their own, and not that I blame them, because inventing a writing system is just too much work.

When I was last in Japan, a few Japanese friends told me that Japan invented the Big Mac.

If one happens to enjoy woodworking, it doesn't matter who first developed the saw. Japanese woodworking tools are infinitely superior to Chinese tools. To give them credit is like saying since China invented fireworks, going to the Moon in 1969 was no big deal.

Traditional Chinese architecture is offensive with its paint scheme. Of course, Chinese destroyed most of their ancient artifacts during the Cultural Inflaggeration. I'd go with Gothic for absolute beauty in architecture, though I missed its peak by 11 centuries or so (There was a Neo-Gothic period about 400-500 years ago, and I've decorated my old French house with Neo Gothic furniture I can find, and what the French people no longer seem to cherish.) For pottery, I'll take Sumerian. For walls, give me Byzantine. The so-called Great Wall just says "We've long had a surplus of people". If one wants ancient technical excellence, China produced nothing comparable in brilliance as one can still see today in the Roman's Pont du Gard in France (Gaul).

I will give a nod to Chinese electric vehicles, which are at least the quality and better in design than Tesla, and dare I saw the abomination Ferrari produced. For food and especially women---vs just Chinese---I'll take Latin. It's the Y chromosome in me.

Why did the Japanese feel the need to adulterate the writing system with gibberish?

Neither. Neither culture can be accepted if any tries to force it into locals in a foreign country.

Still a thing. Most cheap take out Chinese restaurants in USA now have Mexican cooks. I like my Thai friend the other day who commented she went to a Thai restaurant, run by Indians, with a Mexican Chef. Food so-so.
