Personally I don't feel any problem in my area for now, but if I read the news it its everywhere. Even an article in my homecountry mentioned the xenophobic government by Anutin. That is not good for the image of Thailand. I am sure that things can be resolved but there are reforms needed. Outdated laws and rules must be updated. Thailand pretends to be one of the best countries to retire, but when it comes to build or own a house there is an land issue. Some lawyers found a loophole, but we have seen that several families are in trouble now. Why not just allow foreigners to have max. 1/2 rai of land for own use. It will not have a big impact on the prices. Than in the shops it obvious that more and more imported goods are disappearing. Thailand focus on the intern market and that is the conservative thinking. It is also not welcoming for foreigners as parcels are being taxed heavily and also imported products. And than of course the unwelcoming attitude of immigration all over the country. I always feel that we don't count. 90 days reports takes more than 1 hour for example. No queue just me and still 1 hour. They don't care. Friends of me came to Thailand last year and the had a nice holiday but they also stated that it was once, as they felt unwelcome. As an example at a temple in Bangkok only white foreigners were asked to show an id while many Burmese and Thai were left alone... That kind of things is not welcoming tourists...

Not particularly the people,its govt.policies that are being introduced,land ownership,visa changes,potential for a lot more makes uncomfortable vibes throughout

That is because people are not buying them. If they were selling like hot cakes, they would endeavour to replace the stock. No point in replenishing stock that isn't moving.

They are also in high personal debt compared to before and I think struggling more than any time since their financial crisis in the late 90s. And the economic future is looking bleak too.

This, coupled in with the culture of posting everything online (many videos showcasing bad farangs), has led to a lot of anti-farang sentiment.

I do get annoyed with the amount of low life tourists though.

Many thais are like a mirror...put out a pleasant look, fun polite vibe, and that is what you'll get back.

Act like a dickhead disrespect and be a miserable person and don't be surprised if that is what you get back...though thais are amazingly forgiving and give many a hats way more respect than they deserve.

Let me explain again, for the dummies. I arrived in Thailand, working offshore in my 30's, I was not old.

Also, I'm talking about my business dealings in Thailand, banks, land office, immigration, DLT, city hall etc, we were treated like Kings at government departments.

I don't see much respect here. Ever try using a zebra crossing? It is the lowest level of human decency to let pedestrians cross and they don't even respect that. You couldn't set the bar lower.

I think they only respect money......even then often they don't respect that.

To be fair, translation apps these days are near perfect. There is no trouble understanding their own language in an app, so expecting them to understand it is reasonable.

It also makes things easier for the Thai.

I agree.. I think economics plays a part - probably a bigger part that might otherwise be obvious.. when the economic picture turns sour, the cause is usually someone or something from “outside”, it’s easier to vilify an external entity than it is to look inward (not to say external factors are blameless in their entirety)… and that’s compounded by a constant subtle reminder of bad behaving outsiders …

However, this IMHO, plays in most countries and regions - it’s not exclusive to Thailand.

When things are good - then there’s no issues and nothing to “see here”.. but when it’s bad, the focus tends to be on external causes and not internal ones.

To defuse any anti-faring sentiment when people

ask me where I'm from, I make it clear that I'm NOT

american or israeli.

Yes and No.

It's too easy to enter Thailand without a proper visa, without money, without insurance.

The laws and rules can't prevent riffraff entering the country.

And those are creating the headlines.

Also, it's easy too easy to buy drugs and police enforcement or immigration actions are only wishful.

Yes and No.

With foreign retirees only Thailand would be a better place,.

The young and middle age losers are making the headlines.

Maybe to increase the threshold to enter Thailand would be appropriate. Minimum 2000 Euro/monthly.

I live in a rice farming village in Isan, it isn't exactly the back of beyond but there are no tourists in the general area. When I go for my morning walk around the village I am greeted with a wave and a smile and sometimes a conversation, they all seem to know my name although I don't know the name of the vast majority and many know where my son is studying and what repairs I have done to the house etc. I feel comfortable and at home here, which after 20 years I should do.

Haven't read so much self interested navel gazing in a long time.

Some most Thais will accept you, some will tolerate you , and others will spurn you.

Oh! Wait a minute ; in our own nations of origin our fellow citizen follow the same pattern toward "others".
