They have already adjusted visa measures to limit bad tourists.

60 day visa free down to 30 days .... or sth ... whatever ... I don't follow it too closely.

But every restriction also harms the economy because there is less tourist income.

Those who will not rent a shack but reside in a 5*Hotel. Not to attract backpackers who are happy to consume drugs and vandalize houses.

Reports suggest that relationships there between Thais and foreigners are not so good these days.

I personally think, yes, and I think it is largely to do with the economic frustrations of Thais as well as viral misbehaving farang posts online.

Thais don't seem as happy as they used to be. It isn't really The Land of Smiles anymore and has fallen to 50th place (roughly) on the happiness index, and particulary since 2015 Thais have reported online being less happy.

They are also in high personal debt compared to before and I think struggling more than any time since their financial crisis in the late 90s. And the economic future is looking bleak too.

This, coupled in with the culture of posting everything online (many videos showcasing bad farangs), has led to a lot of anti-farang sentiment.

I didn't particularly listen to her music but she was a great performer, radiated warmth and kindness, and will be greatly missed.

Childhood memories. Her music has been everywhere for as long as I can remember. Great lady, great attitude. She stayed with her man for almost 60 years until he died, and kept being creative and hands on the wheel to the end, even though she probably knew she was terminally ill.

For some, such a character can still fit the nasty and disrespectful foreigner description. If you are caught in that net, you'll just have to accept that is what some people will think of you. Nasty and disrespectful foreigners come in all shapes and sizes. Flying off the handle doesn't affect the reality of the situation.

The offshore drilling rig I was working on got redeployed to Thailand. My rig manager asked if I wanted to work in Thailand, I agreed and followed the rig to Thailand.

My rotation was 28/28, I decided to spend my time off, living in Thailand.

If someone is willing to leave 3 million sitting in a Thai bank doing nothing just to get a retirement visa, they are either an idiot or they can afford to retire in a decent country.

I mean who spends more as a group? It seems certain that individual 5 star residents spend more per person than those who stay elsewhere.

But which group actually spends more money in Thailand, the folks who stay in 5 star hotels, or the tourists who stay in more modest accommodations?

I am guessing the actual number of people staying in 5 stars is less than "the great unwashed" who stay in locally owned and operated hotels, guest houses, even hostels.

There is a simple reason most of us prefer the old Thailand and it’s nothing to do with Thais.

It’s because we were all younger,fitter,slimmer and had more hair and teeth.
