I think respect is deserved both ways, unless there is a reason to not respect the person due to their actions. Fair, right?

The Thai's will take money from anyone and everyone, so they opened the flood gates to tourists, and expats, though a multitude of different visa classes. This had the effect of lowering the financial standards of foreigners here, which is evident in the behavior of many, thus drawing negative attention to foreigners.

For someone with high standards like you perhaps you should consider Cambodia? Check this out, seems to tick all the boxes for a high roller like you.

I've never suggested I'm a high roller. I consider myself to be financially comfortable.

I've been to Cambodia a few times, and it's not for me, but unlike some others, at least I can say I have been there before making that decision.

Not a bad deal Cambodia is offering. More competition for Thailand.

Tourism doesn't operate that way anywhere in the world. Never has and never will. That's why not all 2* and 3* hotels are going bankrupt.

Why not go get an education in tourism and economics before trying to dictate how Thailand should run its tourist industry?

But 100K in a bank account or real estate is still fairly steep, which many cannot meet the requirement. But it does lead to citizenship after 5 years. So it seems interesting.

This is one reason I put forward for the eventual raising of the 800k / 65k. It could be a small rise, to keep up with living costs, or a significant rise, to clean Thailand up.

Yes, citizen does give one the right to reside there. The 1 year Thailand retirement visa / extension is nothing more than a 1 year tourist visa. It gives no right to reside in Thailand, and can be revoked at any time, or the goal post moved to qualify for it.

It's always been this way since the 70s I expect, but I think there are a couple of dynamics at play. #1 Many of the immigrants now are society rejects. Maybe it was always that way, but I think todays rejects are different. Maybe not big drinkers like the past, but smokers and coming for the THC. They're not only poor, but have poor prospects and big attitudes. Big Bad attitudes have never gone over well here, but now the immigrants have a I deserve X and no matter what I'm right attitude and that just doesn't work in Thailand. Combine that with the heavy economic pressures for many Thais and it just makes it worse. I don't feel the resentment, but just something different. They want iphones, and Gucci and Channel just like many people around the world, but working their way thru debt and low prospect jobs that puts them further and further behind. Combine the two and it creates tension....and I expect some explosions and deportations over the next 2-3 years. I can feel it.
