Trump can spend his days wallowing in self-aggrandizement and trying to plaster his name everywhere, like a dog lifting its leg to mark territory, and the cult believes Trump deserves his self-awarded acclaim. The cult can ignore their own grocery or gas bills, and believe Trump has brought down prices, even if Trump claims he's brought things down lower than mathematics allows. Trump can repeatedly show his utter disdain for the US Constitution---especially the 1st Amendment---and the cult calls Trump's critics "communists" or "Nazis".

Perhaps those not too deep in the fever swamps can be deprogrammed. Trump's tumbling approval ratings do suggest some people can be rehabilitated and guided back to reality. Sadly, there will be many who cannot. As Trump continues to lose, their self-image will take yet more hits. We can only hope they don't go the way of the nearly 1000 folks at Jonestown, who could not take the shame of their cult evaporating, and all that gave them meaning destroyed.
