Hi,

Well I thought I'd seen it all. Being a travel executive for a UK comapny I have been to a hel_l of a lot of airports in my time. some quite dodgy and some where the security is completely over the top. Last Thursday night topped it all for me. My wife and I had just checked in her mother for her return flight after two months in the Kingdom, we'd said our goodbyes and stood at the trasnluscent wall near passport control to make our final waves goodbye. I glanced up the wall a little ways and notice a little fella on one of those three-wheeler security bike thingies. He had the initials EOD on the back of his overalls. I understand that these initials stand for "Explosive Ordnance Disposal" the guy parked his scooter quite a distance away from a baggage trolley which I noticed had a very packed full daypack in the top basket, he obviously didn't want to get it scratched up if it really was a bomb.

We noticed him walk upto the daypack and begin inspecting it, he pulled out several tools and inspected the main flap for booby trap wires and went about his business very professionally, he carefully inserted tools and opened zips and catches, he carefully lifted the flap..... by this time my wife was getting a bit alarmed so we moved around the corner a bit and continued watching him he carefully started lifting out plastic bags full of some strange brown substance (might have been a dirty old sarong or something) then he pulled out another similar, he eventually emptied the satchel and placed all the contents on the floor next to the empty bag and photographed it all, by this time he had attracted the attention of a few passers-by who quite smartly took off quite quickly. He loaded everything back into the bag then hoisted it onto his shoulder and took off on his three-wheeler. This all happened right next to the El Al (Israeli Airlines) check-in counter.

In any other country given these conditions there would have been a much more substantial security operation especially to ensure the safety of the surrounding public. I hate unnecessary delays at anytime and it was great that it turned out to be nothing but some irresponsible traveller's dirty beach clothes, quite possibly somebody disposing of uneeded clothes and shoes before checking in at the El Al desk who probably thought it would be a funny hoax. So as much as I hate unnecessary delays I would also hate to be caught up in some insane bomb attack.

Somebody should really wake up and pull their head out of the sand at Suvarnrbhum.

Cheers

Roachie

I had to laugh the other week arriving in the kingdom and the bomb disposal pickup was parked at arrivals.

It has "Bomb Disposal Squad" or whatever on the side but this was accompanied by boy racer flames all along the bodywork :o

Was at Beauvais airport a while back and they were walking sniffer dogs up the checkin queues.

One dog started waging his tail and getting all enthusiastic over this lad's rucksack.

The handlers escorted him politely out of the line and started emptying his bag.

When they pulled the bag of sausages out the dog had to be restrained.

Bad dog , Fido !
