I seem to remember that the last time I had a new passport (issued in Hanoi) it seemed to cause some 'immigration head scratching' when I entered Thailand the first time on that new passport. (maybe because I left VN on my old passport and entered Thailand on a new one with no VN stamps)

So now I have a new passport issued in the UK with a tourist visa, is it best to try and enter as an innocent first timer or is it best to carry the old passport in case they want to see it. Obviously it would be better for me if they 'lost' the record of all my earlier visits in case immigration in future starts to check into long-term visitors.

Any experience on this one?

No - I think they track you through your name and the old passport details are on the new passport are they not?

I will ask my pal at the High commission here how it works - he as explaining some stuff last time we were out about all thats on the chip is the details in the bar code stuff at the bottom of the picture/details page.

I will probably take my old passport with me next month if I have a weekend up there just in case and if I do not get my EP transferred in time for my European trip at the end of next week.

I believe that the chip data only contains your name, date of birth and issuing details. I do not think it contains any old passport details, so the only way of matching you to old immigration data is by your name and date of birth. Is that the case??

It probably is the case then.

I wonder if they put your old name if you change your name by deed poll - not that I ever will but i noticed on the passport form last week they wanted three other items such as bills etc where you are using your new name first?

I go in and out n multiple passports all the time.. Many times out on one and back in on another in the same (Phuket, smaller than BKK) airport often within hours of departure.

They have never once said, mentioned, hinted, or in any way appeared to show any connection between my passport a and passport b.

I actually have had a deed poll name change but obviously dont travel on old passports under that name. I am positive that a name change and fresh passport would clear an immigration blacklist.
