Vientienne Visa

Featured Replies

I travelled to Vientienne three months ago and got my first Non-B Visa quite easily. I was planning to return this month, until I was told that it is quite difficult to obtain subsequent Visas there.

Has anyone actually experienced this, or am I worrying and thinking of making new travel arrangements for nothing?

Thanks for your time everyone

obtaining a tourist visa would'nt be a problem. Don't know about two NOn-Bs (two three month non-b's? - confused ).

It is taking a bit longer to obtain my Work permit than I originally thought, so yes I need another Non-B. Is this uncommon, that I am getting a second Non-B?

I've tried three times to get subsequent Non-B Visas at Vientianne, without success. I have taught in a college and university here for five years with full credentials and documentation, so there's nothing dodgy about my situation.

The worrisome problem is that the clerks there are quite arbitrary in what they require for documentation. One time I was refused a subsequent visa because I could not provide a class schedule for the coming semester. At that time, the college hadn't even formulated a schedule yet! Of course there is nothing about needing a class schedule in any of the printed or on-line information for obtaining Non-B visas. I had to survive on 30-day tourist visas (which are getting quite difficult to get at the Laos-Thai border if you are working in Thailand), until I could obtain another Visa-B in my home country. Now I avoid Vientiane like the plague, and have learned to keep current with visa extensions at in-country immigration offices.

Thanks Toptuan, I guess I'll have to take a look at travelling elsewhere.

Anyone know where you aren't given such a hassle for subsequent Non-B's?
