Hi Everyone,

I had a quick question:

My situation is like this:

We will be visiting Thailand, Laos and Cambodia in November this year for three weeks.

I am a Canadian citizen and my wife is an Indian.

Here is my issue:

- We land in Thailand on Nov 15.

- We will cross over by land into Laos on Nov 24.

- From Laos, we fly to Siem Reap.

- Return to Bangkok on Dec 4.

Since I am a Canadian citizen, I can get a tourist visa on the spot for 30 days, both times I enter the country (Nov 15 and then on Dec 4).

My wife, however, is Indian and will need to get a visa and pay the fee both times when she enters. Is this correct?

However, I've read that we will have to show that we will be leaving Thailand by air in 15 days and this is not the case, since we're going to be crossing into Laos by land.

Or, will it suffice to show the immigration officer at the airport our tickets from Laos to Siem REap and Siem Reap to Bangkok and then back to USA?

What do you suggest?

Thanks,

Rahul

Get two entries of a tourist visa before you leave home. What you propose is too risky. ( the advice presumes that your wife has Canadian residence )

She needs to obtain a tourist visa for a 30 day visit prior to travel or hold a confirmed onward ticket out within 15 days of arrival. She could very well be refused boarding of aircraft without; as well as entry into Thailand. Hopefully her second entry will be within 15 days of departure so a 15 day visa on arrival could be obtained. She would also have the option of using a re-entry permit if arrival is on a 30 day tourist visa entry.

You don't mention return flight but you also have to meet the 30 day return flight for a visa exempt entry.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for the advice. We arrive in Thailand on November 15. We cross over into Laos on November 24.

Finally, we arrive into Thailand on December 4 and depart on December 5.

So if I understand correctly, my wife can get a 30 day visa and hence she can enter the country twice without problems, also this means the visa is a multiple entry visa?

OR

She gets a 30 day visa and enters Thailand. We leave thailand and come back after ~11 days. When we come back, she gets a 15 day visa.

Thanks and sorry for the confusion.

lopburi3,

you mention that she can get a re-entry permit with a 30 day visa - this sounds like she can enter twice - exactly what we're planning.

how is this re-entry permit obtained?

thank you

I would recommend use in this order.

1. Obtain two entry tourist visa if possible (not all Consulates are happy to provide but with travel schedule expect they will). Enter visa information in arrival card and receive a 30 day stay stamp on each entry.

2. Obtain single entry tourist visa and before exit of Thailand obtain re-entry permit (at any immigration office) for 1,000 baht and photo which will keep the original 30 day permitted to stay until stamp of the tourist visa entry alive. Enter re-entry permit number in visa area of arrival card on return.

3. Obtain single entry tourist visa and on return obtain 15 day visa on arrival. This will have to be paid for and border crossing must provide this service (believe at least one from Cambodia does not).

4. Arrive without visa and use 15 day visa on arrivals. This will probably require buying an airline ticket out within 15 days as is often checked now.

Thanks lopburi3,

I'll try the options you list asap.

For myself (Canadian), I presume I have no issues and can entry and exit both times without issue - am I right?

Thanks

Hi lopburi3,

One quick question: I am filling the application form for my wife so I can apply for her tourist visa and there are some questions that stumped me, which I'm hoping you can help with:

1) Type of Visa:

I select tourist visa. It then asks number of entries and in this case, I put in 2, correct?

2) Name, dates and places of birth of persons if accompanying in your passport: In this case, my name is on my wife's passport as her husband. So we just enter my name, place of birth etc right?

3) Reference of person and address in USA: Can I give mine since we live in the US together, or does it have to be one of our relatives, or both? I would normally just mine, but I'll be traveling with her.

4) Reference person and address in Thailand: We really do not know anyone there. We're tourists! What do I enter here? My hotels address and the email confirming that I have reservations while we're there?

Thank you very much.

Rahul

You should not have an issue as you have outbound ticket within the 30 days allowed by your passport.

1. Correct.

2. Not sure what an Indian passport looks like but you are not traveling on that passport so I would not put anything but "na" - believe it is designed for parents who have there child on there passport rather than an individual passport.

3. Your name/address should be good.

4. I always put "self" but on Indian passport probably be better to put hotel name.
