I'm a US citizen working in Bangkok and have just hired a Burmese maid. Her student visa expires soon and we need to get her a 1-year non-immigrant O-visa. I was told she has to go back to Burma to get the O visa, but can she get her 1-year visa there at the same time? If not, does she then need to come back to Thailand then go to another country to get the 1-year visa? I tried to follow some of the other posts about it, but this is all so insanely confusing. :o

Also, does she need to pay 150 each time?

Thanks for you help!

One of the last thing Thaksin did was come to some sort of agreement with Myanmar/Burma. The Burmese workers are now supposed to have a special type of passport, also make sure she is registered to work for you. I'm not sure how it works for a farang in this respect. However for the Thais having an immigrant worker without the paperwork is something like a 50,000 Baht fine if caught I believe.
