I couldn't help notice a dad and son pair of motorcycling Sikhs today in Pattaya, and it made my recall I often see Sikhs on Cykes wearing their headgear, but no helmet. These head and hair wrappers go really high and I would imagine it would be a bit of a trick to cram all of that into a helmet.

So, my question is, are Sikhs on Cykes exempt from the helmet laws based on religious tolerance and obvious physical challenges?

Yes.

Same as they are in UK.

Are Muslims with headscarves on also ok not to wear a helmet? i see a lot around. I have also seen a lot of people driving motorcycles wearing a childs bicycle helmet - is this legal also? or is it just Pattaya.

Cannot tell you what is legal in Thailand, but when I left Uni., in the early sixties I went to British Standards testing centre in Hemel Mempstead and tested crash helmets among many other products.

The number submitted to us that failed was quite large at the start, and ALL looked far better than anything I see being worn in Pattaya.

The crash hat is supposed to protect you by absorbing all the shock impacts, thus it can be destroyed itself, but should not cause you injury. The plastic things I see around Pattaya are likely to break into sharp splinters that could do you more harm than an impact with the road.

They really should get organised here. Maybe I can bring the gov't up to speed - and make a fortune!

Agree, and the sikh headgear is probably safer than 90% of the helmets, cuts out a lot of the traffic noise as well :o

Crikey HB, you must be planning a long life and no retirement!

Of course - isn't that why we all came to LOS?

My mum's 98 at the moment and I plan to do better.
