Tot Router - Port Forwarding Setup - Can U Help?

LOS - TOT - LOL

Nobody at the local (Nathon) TOT office has any idea what I'm talking about (surprise) never mind how to do it. None of the staff or engineers even know how to log on so I can configure my router! BUT I have found out how to access that little kidney-shaped router that is next to me on the desk - even if I have to go through TOT to do it. (THANKS TO MSSGS HERE!)

What I need to do is quite simply enable PORT FORWARDING so that my router isn't interfering with my torrent client (Azureus).

My particular setup involves the attached screen. I am going to enter a custom config, but can anyone tell me what to enter in the rest of the boxes, particularly the "forward to internal host IP address. This one I do NOT understand.

Many thanks

Rob

ps - the settings below are the ones that returned an error message

Hee hee hee.

Thanks Mid. Your response to my serious question explains how in one year of being here you could ever have managed to have made five thousand two hundred and twenty four postings.

Sigh.

Anyone have an answer?

I don't use Azereus but uTorrent because it's a better client which needs less resources.

Anyway, the port you're open is the same for starting and ending, let say starting port is 4488 then ending Port is 4488 although! You need to get the prot from the Client Software you use or set the port in the Client Software. In uTorrent you'll find it under Options/Preferences!

I'm glad you say that you're not a complete idiot.

That's reassuring.

Check the IP address your computer has (start -> run -> cmd <enter> ipconfig <enter>)

Fill in that IP address in the box behind Forward to internal host IP address

Add a portnumber (you need only 1 for bittorrent) and use that as port start for Internal and External

If the TCP/UDP setting works, leave it like this. If not, add the same number twice: once as TCP and once as UDP.

Now go to Azureus. Select Tools -> Options

On the connection page, fill in the same portnumber for tcp and udp

Restart Azureus after saving the settings.

Looking at your screen shot, global address would most likely be your routers address (shown in xp/vista as default gateway)

The internal host IP address would be the IP address of the computer you are running your torrent client on.

I don't have start and end port options in my router, so for torrents I think you can have them both the same i.e use only one port. Make sure you choose the same port in your client as you set in the router.

Also if your router uses DHCP to assign your IP address to computers, you may fair better by setting a static one in your TCP/IP or on vista TCP/IP4 setting, under properties of your connection.

Hope that can be of some help.

BLESS YOU!

That's precisely the information that I was hoping for.

I'm off to do it now.

Many thanks,

Let us know when you have it up and running, and how long it takes before your router crashes (open 5 popular torrents to get the max possible download)

Done it all - all worked fine - now have a real live port on my router.

many thanks!

I just love a cynic!

And I read things that tell me that the max download is not the thing to do.

I was coding in Basic before the WWW and sending mssgs round the world via bullitin boards, before the Internet was public, back in the early 80's. But we all need help with new things!

I'm much obliged to you for you help.
