How To Join A Newsgroup ?

Featured Replies

I want to create a new user name at a newsgroup but Yahoo and Google always log me on automatically with my existing name.

How to get around this monopoly? Thanks.

Use a newsreader, like the ones bundled into Thunderbird or Outlook. You can setup your own username and make it whatever you want. Here's instructions for setting it up in Thunderbird. The process is very similar in Outlook.

Many thanks for replying. But in the end I found Outlook Express to be more user-friendly and much faster than Thunderbird.

You figured the newsgroups out though right?

Who controls the number of newsgroup postings displayable? Is it Outlook or my ISP? For example in Outlook Express, using my UK ISP Plus Net, for uk.legal it only displays 300 posts from 24th September (i.e. today), and trying to get more headers/updating via the menu is fruitless. Could another reader help, or is the limitation down to my ISP? Thanks.
