so what happens next regarding working, national insurance, bank accounts?????? ive spent this morning phoning around trying to get some info but im getting nowhere. everyone is passing the buck and giving me new numbers to phone and so on.

any thaivisa members fancy sharing their experience / knowledge ?

She is entitled to work on a SV

She can open a bank account but may have to prove that she is living somewhere with a utility bill/official letter etc. If you take her to the bank you use and show her ID and marriage certificate I would be surprised if they didn't open an account for her. She may have to wait a bit before they extend credit facilities. If she wants the account to pay a salary into then they will sure open one for her.

The job centre is the place to apply for the NI number. They usually say you must get a job offer first then apply but some regions will allow the application before the job.

Register her with a doctors surgery also.

I recall that Nat West do a "simple" bank account for those with no / bad history - no credit and only an ATM without the VISA tag..........but it is a start.......alternatively open up a joint account with her until she builds up a bit of credit history.......whether or not you put yer life savings in this joint account is your call.

thanks for the responses,

ive spoke to the people at National Insurance, they tell me that we have to go the the local police station and get a registration number, then we can book an interview and hopefully get a NI number.

banks: Nationwide want passport + utility bill.

registered at the doctors last week only took about half hour.

thanks again for the advice

Only certain nationalities have to register with the police and Thai isn't one of them. In order to appy for a NINO, contact your local job centre and they'll make an appointment. However, your wife can begin working without a NINO as the visa in her passport is sufficient evidence for an employer that she is allowed to work.

i spoke to 2 different people at the NI main office, both 100% sure she needs this police number, so off we go to the local old bill station and.........u guessed it not a clue.

came home, rang NI again explained what happened with police and her response........ 'you must of looked a right idiot' you dont need that. she then apologised for the other staff and booked us an apointment.

cheers all for your help
