New Compact Digi

Featured Replies

I'm going to buy a new digital compact camera tomorrow and need a little advice. I have spent hours looking at camera reviews but my brain has turned to mush. I'm on a tight budget so will only be spending 7000-8000 baht on the camera. I can't decide between Canon Powershot A series (570?) and Fuji Finepix F20 or 40. Does anyone have experience with both Canon and Fuji...I pretty much just want a point and shoot with clear photos in daylight and night shots and perhaps IS if budget allows that!!

Thanks heaps :o

No one have an opinion about whether a Canon or Fuji is better? Really appreciate any input!

Fuji has a good reputation for cleaner shots at higher ISOs (photos in lower light)

I bought a Nikon Coolpix S50 in MBK a week or so ago, very impressed and got a 1gb SD in the price.

I own a Canon Ixus 800IS and prefer the Nikon

i have canon ixus 75 very good camera can only recommend

A little late but thought I would add my 2 cents:

I am also in the market for an upgrade to my PS Camera and so much info on the net makes it difficult at times.

I read that the Fuji f20 is tough on batteries so crossed it off my list of candidates.

F40fd has face detection, shoots great low light pix and was highly recommended by one of the reviewsers.

Did not research info on the canon a series.

Any info on your final choice, price paid, where bought would be appreciated. Also, how you like it now that you own it.

Good luck.

I just recently bought a Canon S5 IS and quite pleased with it. It also has face detection and uses AA batteries so you can get rechargeable NiMH batteries inexpensively with around 450 shots per charge. The video mode, 640x480, with ant-shake is excellent - would say on par with my digital video camera. Have not tried very low light scenes yet but I posted same samples that were taken at dusk and can be seen here > http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=140218

Just tried the macro mode today (also has a super-macro mode with a focus distance of 0cm!) and worked great. You can see my worm photo in the Pets section using macro.

It's not a pocket camera, but not heavy. Paid 16,000 for it and ordered on-line at tohome.

Well, after all that I didn't end up buying a camera - the sales people were horrible and I didn't want to give them my money! I'm tossing up between a Canon Powershot A540, 7.1 MP, 4x zoom... it's a real cheapie at 5990 baht but it gets excellent reviews, a Canon PS A570, similar specs for 7990 baht, which seems top of the line for budget digis and the Fuji Finepix F20 for 6990 baht. My only concern with the Fuji was they don't accept SD memory cards which I have 2 of already.

Tywais your photos are great..just a bit out of my budget though! Gerd - your dogs are adorable (or do you prefer mean and menacing?!) and the food made me pine for western sweets!

I live way down south but will post details when I buy it next time I'm in town.

My apologies, your budget limits slipped by me.
