I'd guess that's a HUGE loss of face for the Japanese company. Good thing it dropped in the water.

Yes - thanks to everyone who posted pix - especially Hugh.

I'll be home in a week and several hours now, but haven't started the countdown until I receive my passport (with re-entry stamp) and ticket.

According to the Pattaya Daily News, the dud explosion caused the roof/ceiling of the "Sea Rescue" building to collapse. :D

I guess the mayor will now chair a meeting to determine exactly what happened. :o

World Record Attempt successful despite problems with the launch of the Worlds largest firework.

Last week we reported on plans to hold a World Record Attempt at the Bali Hai Port over the weekend, where the Thai-Mikasa Company planned to launch the worlds largest firework which was due to be the grand finale of a spectacular fireworks display organized by the company. The event took place on Sunday Night and began well with the official opening by Khun Niran, the Mayor of Pattaya. Everyone prepared themselves for the fireworks and the world record breaking firework. The idea for the event was given to a Japanese TV station, NTV by 10 year old twins who attended the event. They submitted their wish to a Japanese TV Program called ITTE-Q! The firework was launched, however it failed to reach its planned height of 800 meters and only managed 130 meters before it fell to the ground and exploded. The explosion caused minor roof damage to the nearby Sea Rescue Center. The next day, a full de-briefing took place as organizers discussed what went wrong. However, there was some good news from Khun Somporn, the Managing Director of Ripleys: Believe it or Not! who confirmed the firework measuring 1.3 meters in diameter did launch and although it did not produce the desired effect, the World Record had been achieved.

Unbelivable! :o
