Hello Everyone,

First of all, i am totally new to this forum so greetings to you all. I hope that i can learn from you guys here and maybe get a few pointers on the journey i am about to begin.

My journey, i guess started just over a year ago, after joining an Asian dating agency and corresponding with a few different girls from Philippines, Thailand China etc i eventually got very interested in one particular girl. I don’t know why but she just seemed different.

Anyway, as you do, after many emails and hours spent chatting online we became very fond of each other to the point that we decided to leave the dating agency and concentrate on building our friendship. This was in October 2006. Since then our friendship has blossomed, we email every single day and have done now for a year, we chat at weekends and have become very close.

Of course i had fears, i guess its natural for any guy to worry but i have to say, i soon lost those fears, i know she is a good girl from a good traditional Thai family and just last month i flew to Bangkok to meet her. After 1 year of correspondence, i knew it was time to meet in person.

I have to say, i was totally blown away with her, she surpassed all my expectations and we had a fantastic week together. Saying goodbye at the end of the week was heartbreaking for us both.

Well, so much for the past, about the present now. I have been back here in England just 2 weeks and we both feel the same, that is we know that we have fallen in love with each other and want to spend the rest of our days together...............I have just booked my flight back to Bangkok to spend Christmas and New Year with her and her family. We will go to Udon Thani and i will meet her family for the first time. I am a little nervous but also very excited.

Well that’s my story so far, i know from looking at a few of the posts here that there could be a long and difficult road ahead for my gf and me regarding how we can get married and live together but i am sure that we can do it and i hope that if i have any difficulties or questions, someone will be willing to give some advise.

Many thanks and sorry for the long post, hope to keep them shorter in future.

Hi Paul,

Could you give a bit more information with regard to your intentions? Are you looking to marry in the UK or Thailand, and when are you thinking of marrying?

Scouse.

Would have thought a simple trawl ( excuse the pun ) through myriad past posts might have rendered the OP somewhat otiose.......

One just hopes the thread develops imaginatively rather than dwelling upon the hackneyed although the auspices are not encouraging.

Hi Paul,

Well, to start with, all we have decided so far is that we should get married in Thailand............We have agreed that we just want a simple small wedding with our families and maybe some close friends. From my point of view, its a case of keeping the cost of the wedding low to offset the cost of the "Bride Price". Hmmmmmm well this was going to be my next question regarding the BP........how do you go about deciding how much to pay?

Regarding where we will live, well thats the big question!!! At the moment we are talking over the various options. I have a steady but boring job here, my gf has a decent office job in Bangkok. The ideal situation i would love would be to live 6 months in each country, i bet you have heard that one many times!!! However, as i stated in my first post, i do not have a clue about visas, immigration processes, costs involved.

My aim is to maybe explore one topic at a time and try get some advise from you guys on here..........

So maybe first of all, i would like some advise about the "Bride Price" Do you guys agree with it? did you pay it? Is it a one off payment or could it be payed as instalments?

Ok well hope that gives you a little more insight into my situation, i am sure i will have many questions to come in the following weeks.

Many thanks
