Car Insurance

Featured Replies

Will buy a new car next week ,and want FULL COVER insurance.

The dealer give free 1 yr insurance - but is this 1 or 3 class ?

This the first car I buy here, so please explain what the different "classes" cover.

What insurance do I need to be Fully covered when driving ?

Anyone know the name in Thai ,for full cover ?

I also want Bail Bond insurance, (for motorbike it was just below B 3,000 year) - Bail bond insurance for car same, or not ?

First may we say there is no “Free Insurance” as there are no free lunches – you are paying for it somewhere! Ask the Garage how much money they would deduct from the invoice if you supplied your own insurance then shop around for quotes – note this can be tricky if you are trying to buy on finance.

The Classes are basically

1st Class – Fully Comprehensive

2nd Class – Third Party, Fire & Theft

3rd Class – Third Party only

For a new car – and a foreigner driving to boot – 1st Class is the only sensible option.

The Thai name (the best I can write) is – Pra Gun Chan 1

Bail Bond – this will be included with your insurance – look towards the bottom right of the policy. Note : be sure the minimum is 200,000 Baht.

Bail Bond will be part of the the 1st class insurance.

The value will be spelt out in the policy (50K baht in mine)

The 50k you mentioned for your Bailbond is not enough (this is how many companies try and 'cheapen' the products/premiums.

Everyone - please look (usually) bottom right of your policy and check there is a figure of at least 200k for the Bailbond.

What do we do if it doesnt say 200k Baht?

Ask your Broker to increase the amount - easy for him to ask the insurance company.

Also get your "free" insurance upped from the standard 80% to whatever you can (90% or 95%) as you don't want to lose 20% of the car's value if you total it on the way home !
