I had my non-immigrant work visa extended for another year (Oct 2008) and then flew out and back in again (business trip) with a Re-Entry Visa with an expiry date of 31 October 2007.

At Immigration I forgot to point to the extended visa and was stamped in only until 31 October 2007. I then pointed out the 'mistake' but the Immigration Officer said just to go to Immigration and get a new Re-Entry visa which will be valid until October 2008.

My company have done this and they say no problem about the 15 day stamp but I can't help worrying that I will have a problem when I leave the country again (next month) and they see a stamp Permitted to Stay until 31 October.

Anyone else been through this? Am I worrying needlessly?

Thanks.

Do not believe you will have a problem as you now have two stamps that say your are permitted to stay until October 2008 (and they were issued at a higher level).

Every time you obtain a new extension of stay you should use a new re-entry permit that matches those dates.

Hmm, did you get a NEW re-entry permit after getting your extension, from the information it appears you did not.

Normally leaving the country with an extension and no re-entry permit would result in your extension being toast. You however, have a valid permit from a previous extension, I would expect that this permit be invalidated by the new extension but it seems that the immigration chap was nice to you and let you in against the old permit.

Or maybe I'm totally wrong :o

A visit to immigration for a new re-entry permit is indicated which hopefully will be issued against your latest extension. EDIT Which I now see you've done. In which case, I'm with Lop you should have zero problems :D

Thanks guys but looking at it logically (I know TIT), the Re-Entry permit is valid for me to re-enter the country and they don't care about it when I leave.

But the entry stamp states how long I'm permitted to stay for which is until 31 October 2007 not 2008???????

Have you now got a new re-entry permit that ties up with the dates on your extension? The extension states that you can remain until 2008, yes? If both are true I don't think there will be an issue (but I'm not an immigration officer).

The problem is that you left the country without a re-entry permit attached to your latest extension (only your old extension, but that was still valid when you returned and the officer stamped against it), it is possible that your shiny new extension is now invalid :o

I'd certainly visit immigration if only for peace of mind, you don't want to get any nasty surprises at the airport next time you leave.

Yes Crossy, I've got a new multiple Re-enty that ties up with the new extension to 31 October 2008.

Immigration at the airport have said it's no problem and Immigration in Map Ta Phut when the company got the multiple re-entry, although I don't know if the problem was explained to them properly so I may just visit Jomtien Immigration myself to be sure.

Like you say, I don't want any nasty surprises when I leave the country next time. :o

I've just got the wife's passport back and I think I can now see the logic.

Her last entry stamp says permitted to stay until 31 October 2007 and now she has a new extension that over rides that, she doesn't have to leave and come back just because of the old entry stamp so why should I?

Unless like you say I've invalidated the new extension but then they wouldn't have given me the new multiple re-entry to tie in with it would they?

I think you'll be fine, you have an extension and re-entry stamp that tie up.

Nope, you never have to leave when you get an extension, the problem was that you left and returned before the end of your old extension but after your new one was issued.

This simply doesn't exist ...... You cannot work without a work permit ....

...non-immigrant work visa...

Yes, that was a novel way to refer to an extension of stay for the reason of employment.
