An acquaintance is having 'difficulties' with his relationship with a non p4p long-term girlfriend.

She is claiming restitution under 'common law' and has apparently secured an attorney to support the claim.

I read somewhere else that 'common law' does not constitute a legally recognized relationship in Thailand.

Does anyone here with appropriate knowledge or experience have any comment on the legality of her claim?

My understanding (and I am not a lawyer) is that if the marriage was not registered, then the relationship has absolutely no legal standing.

That said, when relationships go bad here, especially when it is between a wealthier Western guy and a less so well off Thai woman, she might have expectations that there will be some sort of "pay off".

Legally, I believe she has no grounds to claim against him.
