A good friend of mine, in his 60s, is thinking of buying a flat for his Thai GF. Any advice on how to go about it would be welcome. He has no plans to live permenantly in Thailand but would visit 3-4 times a year.

If your friend is buying a flat a.k.a. a condo, then I suggest he put it in his name and not in his girlfriend's name even if it is for his girlfriend to use.

I concur that he should buy it in his name. Watch her squeal and wriggle when he tells her this when she realises she cannot just sell it out from under him. Not all are like this but a lot are.

If he is here only for a few weeks a year then she is not really his girlfriend is she ? Better he keeps his cash me thinks.

So not a house as in the title thread (Ok I am now doing tours to the planet Zog) I am sorry when people mix up House and Condominium issues it just confuses us all. House issue - house issue, Condominium issues - condominium issue - the two are not the same by any stretch of the imagination.

Looked at a neat apartment complex, maybe 3 years old and well managed. Charging about THB 5,000 to move in, monthly rent will be THB 2,500 plus utilities. 1 BR, but like new and with good furniture not bad at all. That place is in the Don Muang area of Bangkok. ** To be honest, properties are burdening me right now. Lots in California costing high property taxes, a place in Germany with electric heating which would cost more per month than flying to BKK does. Enjoy your freedom and if you have to, walk away!

If she has been his girlfriend for a long time buy it for her, up country a nice house should only cost about $10,000 plus land.

If only short time (lol) rent it
