ok to make a long story short me and a friend of mine from school both went for extensions on our non imm ED visas ( mine was single entry, his i believe is multi entry but not sure..)

i went last thursday in bkk on canadian passport, received 1 year.

he went last friday on south african passport, received 6 months, although he had originally had a one year stamp that they crossed out and replaced with a 6 mth stamp.

I am happy with my 1 year but i am curious about this situation.

Cool_Guy_Cory, the last we heard, students at private Thai language schools were getting

90 day extensions and those enrolled in degree-seeking programs at Universities were more

likely to get 1 year. The discriminatory nature of some of the policies isn't a big secret. They

have easily identifiable classes for different nationalities with varying privileges. At the same

time, you and I are asked to pay more for visas to enter some countries. How fair is that. :o

Some of these categories of people do seem to have a predisposition for working illegally in

the kingdom or engaging in nefarious activities. There's a reason the Thais are more cautious.

just read what i wrote.. wasnt very descriptive forgot to say that .

A. me and the other guy are both in a degree seeking 4 year university program at university

B. we are both in the same program and both 1st year and 1st semester.

Its not a big deal but just curious, it could just boil down to i am on a fresh passport at the moment with only my ed visa while my friend has older voa stamps, trips to cambo and has been on a non-imm B before. Could be as simple as that, was just weird cause they marked him as a year then x'd it out and put 6 months.. the uni told me i would get 6 mths anyway, so i was a bit surprised to get a year. Oh well just curious.

Race also plays a major part. Is your friend black by any chance? I'm South African, but I'm white and have never had any problems with visas or extensions.

The Thais are very racist. On my last visa run, a black guy was denied a non-B visa. He had a mountain of paperwork, which they didn't even bother looking at, including the same documents that I had. All that I was asked for was a copy of my contract and a letter from my employer.

hes white, and yea i agree that a lot of thai people look down towards black people. Its just weird coulda been his past visas, the way he looked or just what ever mood the lady was in.. haha i was expecting 6 mths and i had to refill out the form cause my first try was (apparently) to messy, cause i was a bit upset that they didnt except my pic size. Oh well i guess

Could be the past visas. My passport is pretty clean, so that's probably why I didn't have any problems. Also, he could be on a temporary passport (Did it look a bit thin). I know immigration gave me a few issues about my one while I was waiting for my new Maxi passport to arrive.
