Cameras At Immigration

Featured Replies

what do these things really do? I thought they were iris scanners but the pics of people shown on TV they just look like ordinary photos and how long do they have to keep the images for? if forever thats millions already. Do they share images from DM and SVP?

each time you enter your current picture is compared to the previous one - if they don't match than somebody is travelling on your passport.

interpol used airport pics to find a pedophile a month ago - so other agencies, like anti-terrorist, anti-drug can as well

No point in scanning everones iris if they aren't registered for iris scanning.

Lots of uses, not least making sure the person departing is the one that arrived on that passport. Or if a terrorist is believed to have arrived on a stolen passport, they can use the photo to see who he's travelling as and how he currently looks etc.
