when you tire of True UBC and you cancel, they'll come and pick up the converter and dish antenna. Supposedly you'll get your deposit back. DON'T HOLD YOUR BREATH WAITING FOR IT. I cancelled 2 years ago, and am still waiting for a refund of the deposit. Or they'll invent some excuse why they can not return the deposit. Converter damage or some such non sense.

I don't miss it at all! Bad programing with so many repeats that I was able to memorize some of the dialogue.

When you do quit don't pay your last bill and they will give you an extension for another month cancel at the end of that month and then when they come for their money...... which they do right away...... deduct the deposit from the money owed, ............we were both happy with this.

I didn't pay any deposit...I handed the technician 2,000 baht for installation. I Also paid 1 year in advance and get 13 months for my troubles.

OK Paying THB 83.00 a day is THB 2,490 a month and 29,880 a year!

Report after the first year again please! :o

Gold package is about the price of a beer a day .. except I don't drink. I've had UBC for years .. and don't work for UBC. Why will you rip off a signal then laugh at people who pay the honest price?

First I don't rip off a signal... I have a sling blade in the usa and a good connection over here. Second, I access the shows I want to watch on the web more than the sling blade. I was IN LOVE with UBC when I first got it. I was starving for anything with a decent plot and when UBC showed up I was blissed out for about three months which wasn't long enough as I signed a year contract. ANY food to a starving man will taste like the Holiday Inn brunch on Sunday. So it is with you. There are MANY legal options to get your dose. UBC is the easiest but ultimately the most unsatisfying choice. I eat well, with scifi channel, USA, CBS, NBC, and many others. I subscribe to in2streams.com for my shows and have NEVER looked back.. I have what I need and am thrilled that I don't have to subsidize what is by far the worst lineup in any country I have been to, to date. That being said... I paid eighty five dollars a month for quality cable in the USA and would pay it here if I had that choice, so if UBC cleans up their act I might consider taking it back. The ONLY plus I see is the subtitles but seeing my wife speaks English this only kept family members here watching tv all the time.. now quiet bliss and Stargate Atlantis.

The "rip off a signal" comment was aimed very specifically.

I envy your ability to get good cable signals from the US here in Thailand. I would love to get them, especially some of the sports channels. And I do tend to be a couch potato. :D

I just don't have a family connection back in the US, which I assume that I would need for the sling blade.

Also, I don't have the ability to get that 1.5 m connection. However, if you would like to PM me the secret, I promise to take it to my grave. :D

If you are renting the equipment from them you have to pay a deposit. Sounds like in your case you have paid the extra to buy the dish and receiver.

As far as paying for installation is concerned - don't know when yours was fitted, but they did mine last week and as part of the current promotion, charged me nothing for the fitting.

Sorry I may have mislead you! :o

The normal installation costs are 9,500 I paid nothing :D .

Insurance deposit normal costs are 4,000. I paid 2,000 :D . (this is returnable)

So the usual total is 13,500, I paid 2,000 baht. :D

My only concern with UBC is the poor quality of their signal. It's about time to update to HDTV, actually it was about time five years ago.

For them it should be very easy - just sell new boxes to people who have HD compatible TV sets. There could be a problem with broadcasting both HD and normal signals at the same time but they have access to all Thai satellites, nothing they can't work out.

Indeed the picture and sound are bad and the EPG is virtually non-existent. Lately I have so many drop-out of the signal, I had do switch back to UBC / True's own receiver, because my Dreambox takes too long to re-acquire and decode the signal.

But what alternative do we have? I do not want to miss the Formula 1 races and I do not know any other possibility to see these races than StarSport and ESPN.

To the poster "Begaresponce"

For someone who "just" likes the service, you seem all to quick to "promote" UBCs service. Haven't you heard anything anyone else is saying about UBC's abysmal service.

I am still waiting for my deposit back which they have "held" for nearly 6 years. now I am asking for it back and I get 0 per cent customer service............ UBC is a complete ripoff and a disgraceful company to deal with

Take it from me who was wih UBC for years........... take what this other guy has to say with a pinch of promotional salt

Not a fact... My landlord who had lots of houses under his control used to get them installed (dish / cables / STB) for 2k install and no deposit, for the normal UBC boxes.. Had him do a second install for me and kept the equip at the end of the term too..

Is the UBC equipment of any value whatsoever ??

I am perturbed by what aprevious poster said regarding the fact he has been waiting for years for his deposit back........... seems the only thing I have of value to UBC now is the box and dish but what use is it if I can only use it with UBC....... catch 22 anybody ?

I pay for the Platinum pack.

It is not great and, in my opinion, it is worse now with True than it was before, but it is the best around, maybe because there is no alternative option.

Once when moving I cancelled the existing contract and got the 4.000 Baht deposit back about 2 months later.

Malaysian Astro - movies + sport + news =175 ringgit, about 1,800 baht, if you want MTV, Discovery and Cartoons - that's three additional pckages at 50RM each.

How's that cheaper than UBC?

To the poster who thinks that it's easy to recruit English speaking staff with technical knowledge in Isan to cover all expats there - keep on dreaming.

To the poster who compared Thailand with New Zealand - do you realise that Thais speak different language and belong to a different culture. They are not interested in BBC/Australian soaps, nor they are interested in major sports like NBA or NFL, or rugby, and very few of them are able to follow news stations like CNN or BBC which cannot be dubbed or subtitled.

If you want to compare - how about a satellite company charging for French or German TV in that same New Zealand? Will there be any takers at all? Everyone learns a second language at school there, just like Thais learn English here.
