My good friend is the father to a 2 year old son by his Thai girlfriend and is currently on 30 day stamps after his business visa ran out. He needs a visa allowing him to stay as long as possible and I suspect that his only option is a multi entry non immigrant "O". However, without going to Germany or perhaps to Australia, I am not sure how he can get one. Locally would be best but I'm not sure he fits the necessary criteria.

He has heard about a contact in the thai Embassy in Vientianne who can "apparently" sort it out if he spends two days there. I am sceptical about this for a non imm visa and I cautioned him about paying for a "service".

I think I know his options but can anyone offer a solution ?

You do not say how old he is. If over 50 he has options . If under 50 then as you say all he would probably get locally would be a single entry Non O.

I got a Non O multi entry visa from a Thai consulate in the UK. I went there in person but also I saw that they do accept postal applications. So next year I am just sending them my passport by FedEx. It might be worth checking the Thai consulates in DE to see if they offer a similar service.

Incidentally, the main Thai Embassy in London does not offer a postal service but the smaller consulates in other cities do.

Sending it from the nearest FedEx office to wherever I am - probably Bangkok or Singapore. Even sending by EMS from a post office should work. Not sure I understand your question.

That would be illegal. Any Visa you got this way would be void.

Don't think posting your passport to the UK for a visa is at all possible. How would you get exit stamp from Thailand etc...

This method causes major problems and is illegal.. I know someone who stupidly tried it and next visa run they of course saw his passport gained a visa while his entry and exit stamps said he was in Thailand and hit the roof.. He had to leave the country, get a new passport, etc etc etc..

Posting it from any 3rd party country is OK.. You just cannot be inside Thailand when it is applied for.

My curiosity was whether you planned to send your passport from somewhere in the UK to a Thai consulate in the UK, or whether you meant to send it from Thailand or any other country outside the UK, and this curiosity has in the meantime been satisfied.

Posting it from outside of the UK is perfectly OK.. It just cannot be done while you are inside Thailand.

OK, got it. For me personally its no problem to send it from Singapore as that is where my main home is. If I didn't have an address in Singapore I guess I would just take a few days holiday here and have the UK consulate send it to the FedEx office.

Sorry but he cannot go down the post 50 retirement route as this would be the easiest option I understand. He is nearing 50 though (no good for now) but what does the German Embassy need to veryify income ?

As to his current situation, he is looking to better the following options:

1. Go to Germany and get a one year multi entry Non Imm "O".

2. Go to the UK if Germany is a problem.

3. Go to Australia. Nearer and cheaper than Germany (potentially).

4. Go to a 3rd country and FedEx his passport to Germany if they have somewhere like Hull or do it to Hull. It is my belief that Hull will not post it outside the UK so he would need a UK based intermediary.

A single entry is a waste of time and resources. I was hoping that there might be a chink of light for perhaps KL or Penang due to the baby.

If the baby were to start kindergarten, could he not get some dispensation on that basis ?

Is there no other way (I've drawn a blank on my knowledge) that he can get the multi entry in SE Asia ?

If you download the non o forms for the Hull Consulate it clearly states " Must be in the country at time of Application" or words to that effect at the top of the first sheet

The accompany student applies only to foreign national students so child would have to be in Thailand on foreign passport (7.7 or 7.8 extensions of stay) to have any hope of using the 500k bank deposit method of 7.10

Non UK nationals must be in the country at time of application.

They will accept applications by international mail from UK nationals, obviously not from within Thailand.

I have the Hull forms in front of me but the only thing I can see about location when applying is on page 4:

"APPLICANT CANNOT BE IN THAILAND AT THE TIME OF APPLICATION"

Here is the link if anyone else wants to take a look:

Exactly as I stated..

Can be outside of the UK but not in Thailand (I did think it was only UK nationals that could apply by international mail though)..

I have an exchange of emails with HUll from last year in which they tell me I could do it from a third country. They cannot specifically state that but they will agree to your suggestions if you put forward the proposal.
