Packed My Dogs Last Night, Pre-flight

Featured Replies

It looks as though my wife and I will be moving to Pattaya very soon. We have enough international experience from travelling outside of the US many times over, but one of my greatest concerns is for my girls.

Has anyone here (that has a second to talk) brought their expat dogs with them in their move to Pattaya that could give me a quick rundown of what we should expect as far as the quarantine experience, vet experience and advice on where to buy decent food and pet supplies?

I know these questions most likely get asked and asked again by annoying people who are "moving to Pattaya" and I'll be searching the forums for most of my questions, but I thought I'd at least get my feet wet by posting and introducing myself.

one other thing... it would seem to me that there are a few LFC fans here on the board, will I have fellow reds to watch football matches with?

There is a pinned thread on this Here

Expect them to shed a lot at first as they adjust to the weather

Expect packs of street dogs to attach them any time they are not in your yard.

Expect little from the vets around here

Our lab moved with us here a year and 1/2 ago and he adjusted completely with in a few months

Get your dog regular heart worm treatments in Thailand

Bring with you your favorite flea and tick collar as they are not easily available here. I bring Hearts brand from the US and they work 10x better than the ones for sale locally.

The quarantine ends after you receive the dog from customs ( it is a 30 day at home quarantine but no one checks on it)

Expect some hassle getting through customs, ask for a customs agent directly from the airline.

Good luck!

My experience at the old airport, six years ago, was not difficult. There was an animal control officer working near customs. I had the proper US health certificates and vaccination records. Seems there was modest fee and some basic forms required to be filled. He just quickly looked at the dogs, read the forms and approved them. No quarantine was required. 45 minutes to complete the tasks and we were on our way.

FYI You might want to make arrangements for van to meet you. The travel kennel will not fit in a car. I think this travel company can provide a van for pick up. They have good rates and service. e-mail: [email protected] Tel: 66 38-716528, 66 38-423067, 66 38-716440

The poster " tuffy " stated that flea collars etc are not easily available. Not sure where he lives but we have a dog ( Pattaya ) and the place is crawling with pet shops who supply all a dogs needs. ( We even buy Ceaser and Pedigree Chum here )

Lots of vets in Pattaya anyway.

:D:o

Trollish posts have been deleted. Lets refrain from inflammatory remarks, please.

Make sure they have all their Jabs and regular Heartworm medication. :o

Sorry I should have been more specific........"good" flea collars are had to find. The ones I buy from the States work 10x better than the ones I previously bought in Pattaya pet supply stores.

I,m of the opinion that Thai ticks and fleas are not as tough as the ones in the USA. :o
