I'm from Hong Kong, one of the countires that visa is not required if staying in thailand for less than 30 days as a toursit.

Can I stay in Thailand for 1 to 2 years by keep leaving / coming back every 30 days? According to Lonely Planet, one can do that and there is no limit on how many times.

Anyone ever tried that without any problem with the Custom?

By the way, how long should I stay outside Thailand before come back to get another 30 days permit?

I know a belgian guy who is just doing that, getting a new stamp every 25 days.

Wouldn't it make more sense to just get yourself a multiple entry visa according to the objecive of your stay? Tourism, retirement, work?

your last question: how long stay outside Thailand?

5 minutes will do....

I actually timed how long I spent in Malaysia my last trip to Pedang Besar. It was 1 minute, 32 seconds. :D To truly qualify, that was timed from being stamped out of Thailand and then being stamped back into Thailand. :D Is that possibly a record of some sort? Can I propose some type of a competetive contest within ThaiVisa? :o

In theory the answer is yes.

However this is not really the idea of these visas and you may find the day when you will be turned back at the airport/border by the Immigration, not customs, officials.

Tell us more about your age and why you want to be in Thailand and we may be able to offer you an alternative visa option.

the living cost in Hong Kong is too high. currently i don't have a job but a freelance business that work over the Internet. my life can be much better if i earn $$$ in HK and spend $$$ in Thailand.

that's the main reason...

It becomes a quite serious problem if Immigration find the overstayer before the overstayer finds Immigration.

What the Dr has said is the crux of the matter.

I suggest you come in on a double entry tourist visa.

That will allow you to stay around 6 months.

2 months on the first entry

1 month extension whilst still in Thailand (1900 baht)

Border run.

2 months on second entry

1 month extension again (1900 baht)

If you work is entirely Internet based and can be done from home,

you should have no problem on the tourist visa.

You will need to chose you location carefully as very little of Thailand

has broadband connections yet.

After 6 months take a trip overseas for a couple of weeks.

Try to make it more that just an out/in. Then

apply for a new double entry tourist visa whilst your overseas.

While you are here you may fall in love with a Thai girl and

get married, then the visa situation becomes much easier. :o

Only one form needed. Fill in 2 where it says number of entries.
