January 9, 200818 yr I'm going to rent some of these movies tonight, for the next few days; this list has made me nostalgic. I can't believe I overlooked Amelie, one of my favorite movies of all time (me too, Rue). I don't know whether to rent new stuff, or see the same fav stuff. I will report back.

January 10, 200818 yr Oh god yeah Beaches. It's not so much a movie as a kind of new age crying therapy technique. Seriously cathartic. Actually that's the same with a lot of these movies. Having a good cry about something that is not actually happening in your life makes you feel great afterwards. I also love books that make me cry - some recent ones were Cloud Atlas, Star of the Sea and the Time Travellers Wife. It feels quite romantic seeing your tears dripping all over the pages of a book...
January 10, 200818 yr sound nice, but i didnt watch chick flick movies much lately so no idea, wat i can think of and even seen is Devil wear prada and Ugly Betty on TV is that counts?

January 10, 200818 yr I have a description and link for Dogfight because it's a little known film, and a classic chick flick with a meaningful angle. It also has a young River Phoenix and Lili Taylor, and a soundtrack with Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, and others from the era. Below is a blurb, and link to a You Tube snippets (they both have soundtrack overlay, so you don't hear the acting and dialogue of talented River and Lili Taylor, until the end of the second link, but it gives you an idea) It's really a beautiful film, for men and women: "Set in 1963, a romance involving a Marine on his way to Vietnam who encounters more than he bargained for when he takes part in a sadistic Marine ritual." "The story is very dark and not romantic, yet it's also an out and out love story. In my opinion, it's also the best war film ever made. This being said about a film with only one war scene. I say this because unlike other war films, you get to know and love these young marines and understand their world, then realize how these men's worlds are shattered by the fight: the true tragedy of a war. The onscreen chemistry between Lili and River is so nonexistent at first glance, that it's overwhelmingly pure and true. This is how two people with nothing in common, yet everything in common would act together. And the sequence where Eddie goes off to Okinawa after his night with Rose, with the great folk music of the era playing is like a beautiful dream we all have, a dream we never want to end." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k9VspSACVGQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oyvwp8XhF-k...feature=related
January 10, 200818 yr Here are a couple of clips for the film Orlando. It's an adaptation of the Virgina Woolf novel, is set over 400 years, and is a spoof on gender and the Victorian era. It's brilliant, campy, satire and has very gay humor as well. Tilda Swinton starts out as a man, becomes a woman, and lives over 4 centuries. Quirky and fun. *Official trailer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HI8GaoFp9L4...feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=me9dzo9P19E...feature=related *added Edited January 10, 200818 yr by kat
January 11, 200818 yr Here is one other link for Orlando, which basically follows Tilda Swinton as a metaphor for changes in gender and women over 400 years. This link is excerpt is called "Sex 1850" and that's just about the time when Billy Zane rides up on a horse. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x0lanScrlc0...feature=related *added link Ok, I'm done now. Let me know if you guys liked or hated it. Edited January 11, 200818 yr by kat
