Accident Lorry Crashes Through Barrier and Hits Passenger Train in Sa Kaeo
Picture courtesy of Khaosod. A collision between an 18-wheeler lorry and a passenger train has left one person dead and four injured in Sa Kaeo, after the lorry driver crashed through a closed level crossing barrier and struck a moving train. The incident occurred at 15:25 on 26 June, at kilometre marker 220/9 between Watthana Nakhon and Sa Kaeo stations. The freight lorry collided with Ordinary Train No. 276, which was operating between Ban Klong Luk Border and Bangkok’s Hua Lamphong Station. The impact caused one of the passenger carriages to derail. One railway employee stationed at the crossing was injured, along with three train passengers who sustained minor injuries. All four were promptly transported to hospital. The driver of the lorry was pronounced dead at the scene. Initial investigations indicate that the crossing barrier had been properly lowered by a railway employee at the time of the incident. Despite this, the lorry proceeded to drive through the barrier and struck the middle portion of the train. Due to the disruption, passengers on Train No. 279, running from Bangkok (Hua Lamphong) to Ban Klong Luk Border, were transferred by road from Sa Kaeo Station to their final destination. An investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the crash and whether mechanical failure occurred or it was just driver error. Adapted by Asean Now from Khaosod 2025-06-28 -

UK Starmer’s Struggles Laid Bare in Welfare Climbdown That Shakes Labour’s Grip
This is the problem the UK and Europe face .... whenever their is an attempt to reduce the level of state spending on anything you get opposition so fierce that you are unable to make any cuts at all. You barely touch the sides. The UK in particular has to get a grip on spending, it's just completely out of control (most of it sheer waste). So instead you are going in a spiral of high taxes to fuel more spending ... which just cuts growth, and you are in a tail spin of repeat and rinse. The money spent on financing the debt is astronomical compared to those with less debt. If anything i admired the Cameron / Osbourne government for actually trying to make an attempt at cutting spending, but ultimately it was all very minor again. Eventually someone is going to have to speak seriously to the population, explain you cannot get everything, and major cuts will have to be made. -
