You might search some prior posts this subject has been addressed more than once.

Basically the costs and hassels are not worth Importing a bike .

But again look up some previous posts.

yeh better off selling bike before and put money towards a bike when your here as will get mega ripped off on import taxes .plenty of different types of bikes here(i got 2 for sale!!!) and probabaly can buy similar to yours for a lot less than paying all that duty on it for nothing.then again if money no object then bring it.

:o thankyou to all that replied, they sure dont do you any favour in Thaialnd.

I read that you have to own the vechicle prior to import for 18 months and charge 80% import tax on value made, then you can't sell for 3 years etc

Then again it can be done, a friend of mine got his spicial build HD in, he did have to pay 250.000, 90.000 for the book, the rest for, well who knows, but that was cheap

I interpret those numbers to be Thai baht for bringing in a bike that might have been worth US$30,000 in its home country. That would be US$75,000 more in import fees, bribes and extortion. Not worth it.

Agreed, Thailand wants you to export only,.It sort of makes sense but it makes the likes of used cars and bikes rediculously high, 399.000 i saw for an old jag that would be 200 quid in the uk ! :D

first/ step sell your house so you have the money for the tax.

if your bike cost 5000pounds as new that is the price of the tax x 3 or 143% of the first price look on the net thai import duty you will find it so you still want to bring your bike. ok but first you need an import licence and all the paperwork for it not easy.

so if you must have your bike here then this is what to do remove the engi=ene and ship in one box to a bike shop in thailand ie siam motor cycles pattaya city then you pay the 17% import tax on that as a spare part then you strip the frame and the weels ect putting all the parts in good packing and number every thig to help the rebuilding then you ship that not at the same time as the tax man will spot it .

use a diferent shipping service you pay the ax due on entery and the bike can be put back 100%

this is a big saving of two ways 17% against 143% allso the parts are seconhand and not worth much

when you build it back up the book and paper work can bedone by siam motor cycles as can the book.

the book will cost 35000 up to 400cc 60000 upto 650cc and a wopping 95000 over 650cc so work it out and you see stipping it down is better

I know exactly what regs you are talking about as I was going to import a Hummer H2 for my uncle. I don't think it will work for you. There is an exception to the Thai import regs that you have found, but that is only available to Thai nationals living abroad. Thai nationals are allowed one, and only one (in a lifetime) import of the vehicle they owned abroad as their personal vehicle at the reduced rate you mentioned. Up to about 5 years ago, Thai nationals could import with no import tax whatsoever, but they changed that.
