Immigration to invest B250m in info upgrade

Pattaya

Immigration police will invest 250 million baht to install new information technology and computer systems at airports and seaports nationwide in a move to improve immigration services and help ensure national security.

The systems will link all immigration checkpoints, such as those at Don Muang, Chiang Mai and Suvarnabhumi airports and border checkpoints together to allow immigration officers to more efficiently check information about the entries, departures and stays of all travellers.

Immigration Bureau commissioner Pol Lt-Gen Charnwut Watcharapook, who inspected Si Racha immigration checkpoint in Chon Buri during the weekend, said the bureau had completed gathering information and was now developing computer programmes for the IT and online systems. He expected the systems to be operational next year at the same time as the opening of Suvarnabhumi airport in Samut Prakan. He said the project will help ensure national security and the safety of Thai people and tourists.

Surprising that he found anyone in the Sri Racha office over the weekend. It is normally shut on Saturday and Sunday.

Surprising really, as they also oversee the port here.
