The first record I ever bought was for someone else.

As A kid, the Parents gave me a few bob and told me to buy "Little Sister" by Elvis, for my older sister's birthday.

Mine was 'Don't stop me' now by Queen - although I have no idea when that was - maybe 1977?

Funnily enough my first record was also by Queen.

It was 'bicycle'.

I must have been about eight I suppose.

I can't say that I'm much of a Queen fan and never bought another of their records after this.

LOL!

I remember dancing to this in my groovy miami-vice jacket.

Sleeves rolled up.

Oh the shame.

Yup in my late 20's, I was only about 10 years old when i bought them. Can thank my uncle for the influence. :o

First record was for my mum. Tom Jones "The green green grass of home" 1966.

For me I think it was (LP) The Who "Live at Leeds" 1970. I did buy the single "Paranoid" by Black Sabbath around the same time.

I was a romantic teenager. My first was probably a Roger Williams piano single like "Autumn Leaves" or "Almost Paradise." But as a radio DJ I played Elvis songs and Sheb Wooley's "Purple People Eater."

Now, those were some lyrics:

I said Mr. Purple People Eater, what's your line

He said eatin' purple people and it sure is fine

But that's not the reason that I came to land

I wanna get a job in a rock 'n' roll band

Well bless my soul, rock and roll, flyin' purple people eater

Pigeon-toed, under-growed, flyin' purple people eater

We wear short shorts - friendly little people eater

What a sight to see - Ow!

1954.....Eddy Calvert...O Mein Papa. The B side was Mystery Street and on the parlophone lable and cost 5 shillings.Bought it at Allens in the Arcade in Bristol. Of course it as an 10" shellac record and my wind-up gramaphone needed a new needle often.

My second record was Frankie Laine ..The Kids last Fight..the B side..Long Distance Love. On the Philips label and cost 5 shillings and five pence.

Being a teenager money was scarce and these 2 records were constanly being played until some more were bought.

Memory is strange...I can recite the words of Long Distance Love even now 54 years later.!!

"I cried a river of ink and a mountain of paper

but that couldnt save my long distance love

I met an old friend from home and he promised to tell her

to tell her I craved for my long distance love"

Boris Pickett and the Cryptkickers.
