Alcohol Bans

Featured Replies

Does anyone know about alcohol bans in Thailand in February and March 2008?

Word around Phuket (probably the most tourist dependent province, and certainly the most rigidly policed on these occasions) is that there will be 4 nights closure 21st Feb for Buddha day, 22-24 for Senatorial pre-elections followed by yet another ban for 2 nights the following weekend. The problem here is that the police only issue the notices to the bars a day or so in advance, no doubt to lessen the chances of people like me escaping.

The people who say stockpile the booze and drink at home are welcome to their opinions but I am used to going out to bars and pubs almost every night of the last 44 years and I greatly resent being ordered to stay at home. If I can find out for sure there will be these bans then I will be on a plane faster than you can say "Muddy Murphy's please".

Information most appreciated.
