Padded lamp posts and bollards in Brick Lane to protect people injuring themselves whilst texting or not looking where they are going ! ( report on cnn tonight ) . It would not work in Bangkok because the padding would force , in many cases , people to walk into the road who would probably then be hit by a car , bike instead .

Yes - a trial - Which has already prevented many accidents , so they say ! which may go to other areas .

and ps It makes the steet look rediculous with padded posts evrywhere .

But the last time I drove down Brick Lane , over 10 years ago , I was nearly caught in the middle of a street fight between two rival gangs - Maybe they want to prevent injuries whilst fleeing base ball bats .

Looks like they're provided by 118 118 a telephone directory service, so I would say this is probably just a marketing gimmick.

Almost two thirds - 62 per cent - of Brits concentrate so hard while texting that they lose their peripheral vision, researchers found.

Given the apparent dangers of "unprotected text", over a quarter of Brits - 27 per cent - are in favour of creating a 'mobile motorway' on Britain's pavements.

Texters could follow a brightly coloured line, which which would act like a cycle lane, steering them away from obstacles.

And 44 per cent of those surveyed wanted pads placed on lampposts to protect them while texting.

The research showed that Brick Lane in East London was the top spot for texting injuries.

Across London, it is claimed there were more than 68,000 such accidents last year,

The survey, by text information company 118.com...

The Daily Mail, it's news Jim but not as we know it.

Please tell which pavements you walk on in Bangkok? :o:D:D It must be the one that hasn't got craters in it or something sticking up out of it or have a noodle stall palked on it or have a motor cycle taxi hurtling down it.
