My daughter born in thailand is soon to recieve citizenship by decent australia,we have thai passport

and are now waiting on citizenship and aussie passport, for a holiday visit to oz only at this stage.which passport would we need to travel on.

Regards NB :o

I would say the Australian one if you have to hand.

If using the Thai one, I imagine she may need a Visa of some kind!

I understand this but on return to thailand on oz passport it would be stamped on entry for 1 month only

NB

Sounds like a 'curly one' I'll back off.

I would post on the Thai section as well!

At immigration you show them both. Leaving Thailand, they stamp the Thai one, entering Aust they stamp the Aust one.

Leaving Aust, they stamp the Aust one out again and entering Thailand they re stamp the Thai one.

At least that's what they did for my boy back in 2004/2005.

Thanks GusG,

Makes a lot more sense now.

The only thing that may be different to what gusG posted, is that at the Australian end now they do not automatically stamp your arrival or departure dates in to your Oz passport, unless you ask the officer to do so.

They retain all the info in their own system.

This probably doesn't affect your matter though?

She is a dual citizen, enter and leave Thailand on the Thai passport, enter and leave Australia on the Australian passport.

Slight correction. You don't show immigration both passports.

You show the airline check-in desk both passports. Thai passport tells them your duaghter needs a departure card. Aussie passport tells the airline that your daughter is allowed to enter Australia (without such proof, you wouldn't be allowed to board.

Fill in the departure card using the Thai passports details. Show ONLY the Thai passport to Thai immigration. Daughter gets stamped out. Immigration will then staple the arrivals card into her Thai passport, for use when she returns.

Arrive in Australia, use Australian passport. Same again with leaving.

Arrive in Thailand, fill in arrivals card which was stapled into your daughters Thai passport. Enter using the Thai PP.
